Ever since web users have been able to submit their own articles to social news sites the playing field has virtually exploded for new companies to innovate with the medium. The concept is quite simple, you read something, if you like it you can vote it up, if you don't you vote it down. You can also submit your own stories or just bookmark all the great content you read in your own account. Thoof.com is a new service offering personalized news for users in the same format, albeit with a few differences.
But first, let me talk about how the user interface was a breath of fresh air with as less clutter as possible. Being familiar with these type of RSVC {read,submit,vote,comment} sites finding good stories worth clicking and reading is basically second nature to me, as it to most of the new Web 2.0 internet user.
Like this story I found about 7 must see viral videos on youtube, which has some hilarious videos. You can choose to "hide" a story, "improve" it by offering suggestions for a better description, add tags or more... As for the videos well, there were some I saw like the Where is Matt? one, but for the rest I haven't seen them. The next time someone asks me if I saw that video about that laughing baby on YouTube I can say that I have. {video at end}
The site itself is quite easy to use, you can create your own account by registering which requires an email confirmation - that's it. You can then begin to share interesting articles, websites or other media like pictures or videos within the community by submitting content yourself.
The sites uses quite a bit of Ajax and you can just keep on scrolling down while content keeps loading, a never ending stream of stories to read! Have a look for yourself.
