I found out about Sponsored Reviews in mid-January, I couldn't register then, and after some emails back and forth everything went quiet. Now I know why. Because Sponsored Reviews has just launched one of the most exciting ways to make money with your blog.
This post is sponsored by them and these are my own opinions. With a domain name like sponsoredreviews.com you can pretty much expect what they are about. Writing sponsored posts has come under fire by many people but the industry presses on.
The major lifelines of the internet are links but with the advent of mainstream blogging it is now becoming increasingly important to get your product/service socially viral. Millions of blog owners write millions of posts a day which are read by millions of people collectively. So if your blog and reader base are strong, there is no doubt that there are some affiliate links or CPC ads on your blog. Unless of course you just write for the pure fun of it, which is perfectly fine.
But the fact is that hundreds of thousands of blog owners make a very good living from their blogs, and sometimes that's all they do. People are reading more than ever on the internet.
With sponsored reviews an advertiser can take advantage of all those eyes that are reading the blogosphere.
Advertising with Sponsored Reviews
Since I haven't signed up as an advertiser I will give my perspective of what I see from the bloggers angle.
Upon signing up, an advertiser would create an opportunity in the system and categorize it, which could then be filtered by the blogger according to their blogs.

Once a blogger would click through an opp they are taken to the description page where they can see all the details about the opp. from the payment window, minimum words required and a description about what the product/service is about. A blogger then submits their bid to you and you are sent of an email letting you know of their bid amount and intention.
It is then up to you to either accept, or negotiate I presume, a bid offer.
The thing that I like the most here for the advertiser is to reject bigger bid amounts from blogs that may not have much of an authority. This way they can wisely spend their advertising dollars.
The negative aspect for this is that an advertiser can get bombarded with bids and take forever to sort through them. I think it would be nice to also offer them the chance to select from the get go which blogs they want along with a bidding invitation.
Once you accept a bloggers bid you are locked in and have to wait from 1 - 7 days for the blogger to put their post up. Usually you can expect that to happen within a day or two.
The advantage here over other such services is the chance for the advertiser to reject the bid and negotiate a different price.
Bloggers making money with Sponsored Reviews
Upon signing up you can add your blog and it is then automatically given a ranking based on Link Popularity, Technorati and your Alexa traffic rank which is then averaged out to your Total Rank.
The system gives you a recommended price to set for your blog reviews. They recommended I set it anywhere from $20 - $100, my review page is here. You can customize your account with many notification features and choose to be public or private. Although if you are public you have more chances at getting noticed by other advertisers.
Requirements
- For your blog to get accepted you need to have at least 10 posts with 200 words of unique content each.
- Shouldn't be a scraper site, have a 3:1 non paid to paid content.
- Foreign language blogs are accepted, though you have to state in your title the language
- Your blog can be rejected due to very little traffic and/or links.
So in a way this prevents everyone from putting up a blog with 10 scraped or borrowed articles and expecting to join the system. Which is a good thing as it keeps things clean.
Does it really work? I don't know I don't have the time to set up a scraper blog. But if you feel like trying, be my guest.
Money
If you set your review price at $50 you get $32.50 and Sponsored Reviews gets $17.50, which is a 65-35 revenue share. One of the lowest in the industry. Plus you get paid every 2 weeks! That's faster than any others out there.
Once you complete a review you simply enter your URL in the opp page and that's it. Your review is done the money shows up as current earnings in your payments tab and all you have to do is wait to get paid.
The system is a very nice mix of both PayPerPost and ReviewMe where both the blogger and the advertiser can interact with each other through price negotiations and the blogger is free to write about whatever they feel like.
There is no emphasis on a positive tone, something which turns me away from many ppp opp's, instead emphasis is laid on constructive criticism along with in-depth honest reviews.
You can also negotiate compensation, although I am slightly confused as to how this works.
For the Future
I would like to see Sponsored Reviews implement RSS feeds for new opps, which they currently don't have. Also an affiliate program would be nice. Plus if advertisers could somehow vote for a blog depending on how they wrote their review would be good too. Of course I would expect an advertiser to rate on the basis of whether my review helped them understand their product/site from a user's point of view and not whether I didn't send them enough traffic or made some improvement remarks.
Conclusions
I think Sponsored Reviews will make good progress.
Though there is one hiccup that I already encountered. I bid on an opp and after a few minutes I noticed in my dashboard that the credit card of the advertiser was declined. How the heck can you let an advertisers opp in the system before having payment sorted out? Now it just says that they will update me on the status.
So far I like what I see, the system loads fast. The layout is clean and crisp. The potential could be huge for bloggers and advertisers alike in this new method of online advertising.
Now all they need is advertisers.
Have you signed up with them? What do you think about their model in regards to making money online with PayPerPost and ReviewMe?
They asked for a 200 word review, I gave them a 1200 word review! So see advertisers I am worth it!

The service does seem great. How long did it take for your account to be approved? I got the email yesterday or the day before announcing that they were up and running, so I joined and set up my personal blog [which currently does not do sponsored posts yet]. My blog looked accepted, but it said my account had to be.
Anyway, I was thrilled to see they were ready to start. I can’t wait to see if they do accept me so I can get started.
On a side note, PayU2Blog pays every 2 weeks as well. They’re the ones that pay me for sponsored posts on my advice blog.
Good luck with with it! I hope they work out for you =) I’m glad you wrote about them. You’ve got a good blog, I’ve had your RSS feed on my reader for a while.
Ali,
Great example of a review. Lots of good feedback there.
As it stands we have enough features and requests to keep us busy for quite a while.
BTW, as for the credit card thing. We pre-authorize every card advertisers put in our system, unfortunately we found that some Credit Card companies, with overly secure fraud protection, put a hold on charges from new companies. This shouldnt be an issue for long and has only been an issue on 2 cards out of dozens.
Thanks again for the great feedback, this is a great example of the types of reviews advertisers should be looking for.
Yeah, the matter was resolved and your support staff was great about the response. I’ve been able to take the opp now and it’s already posted here – It’s the one for Bloggst.
I just signed up my blog and was reading the advertising information as I might want to pay for a review. A link to this site is provided as an example of what advertisers can expect.
I am curious how well the service is going to work for real estate related services that might not be blog centric. Time will tell.
Nice review in that some of the things you highlighted are spot on with my experience as a new member of the service. In some ways it still feels like word of mouth advertising from people who have direct experience.

Well, I hope you find a positive experience with the setup. It’s nice to know that sponsored reviews is linking to this post as an example.
I signed up and look forward to seeing the changes they’ve implemented over the last few months!
Wow, that was a very long post. Anyway, congratulations and goodluck with Sponsored Reviews.
As for me, I am still waiting for the day my blog is old enough and popular enough to join such sites.
It is possible to make money online, but not everyone will be able to make a living off of it. It is great for extra income.
I have placed some bids in sponsoredreviews but it’s take so long to wait the approvement or rejection from the advertiser, I have placed the bids for 2 weeks and it’s still in pending status
