Animals are lucky most of them survive in the wild, under rocks or trees, can lay on grass or a branch and fall asleep then get up and move on. But we humans we need a home to go to every night and tuck into bed with air conditioning and/or heating. Real estate is probably the most lucrative and an always expanding market as we keep producing more of ourselves. There are many ways to find a home for yourself online, roomster.net is another, they have sponsored this review*.
Based out of NY, roomster is an advanced housing rental site which aims to bring the interaction between the owners and renters to a new level. Direct communication is how they aim to bridge whatever gap may be left between finding an apartment, roommate or sublet online.
Features include
- Instant Messenger
- Show Interest
- Hot Lists
- Flagging Profiles and more
Spanning the U.S and Canada the site has most of the major cities listed on the front page, and you can navigate to your city of choice with one click, quick and simple. Let's see what's happening in my old town of Miami.
If you go and check it out you can see that a bunch of profiles are at the top, going down you can narrow by male/female, age, zodiac sign, type of housing and most importantly price. Each listing has a photo, along with the location and description, plus the ability to send a message to the property owner instantly. The other cool thing is the integration of Google Maps to show the location of the property. Something, which I presume, a lot of people will like.

Roomster is 100% user supplied content, much like today's user generated social sites, where you can find properties or apartments as well as post if you have any property for rent too.
As of June 18, 2007 they have 789,991 available listings, so if your on the lookout to move - have a look at roomster.net.

It is funny… Roomster is the name of car produced by Skoda Auto.
A few years back we had a pure email list version of this running in Edinburgh for finding rooms. It was a nightmare. What web2.0 was built for!
