Nokia Nseries 8800

This was launched at the recently concluded CES show that was held in Las Vegas. The Nokia Nseries N800 (a lotta 'N's there) is basically a portable internet tablet.

"Designed to stay online so you can enjoy the benefits of the internet, whether you're at home or on the go. Browse your favorite sites. Stay in touch with the people you love with internet calling. Chat with your friends. Check your email. Relax with your favorite songs and videos."

What is it?

It is a high resolution internet communications device that runs the Opera 8 browser and has Flash 7 installed for web browsing purposes. Opera may not seem to lead on the web but they sure do lead in communications devices from web enabled cell phones to the Wii and this one now.

So what does it do?

It does Internet calling with integrated webcamera, Instant Messaging, Email client, Full-screen finger keyboard and more. You can listen to your music and watch video as well with its built in high quality stereo speakers. Though not a phone like the iPhone it has the same internet browsing capabilities like it. Comes in a silver front cover and matt black back.

Configurations -

  • RAM 128
  • Flash 256MB, 128 MiniSD with extender included in sales package
  • Two
internal memory card slots, compatible with SD, MicroSD, MiniSD, MMC,
and RS-MMC. Compatible with cards up to 2GB. Configurable up to 4GB.

With the battery fully charged it will give you up to 3.5 hours of browsing time and a standby of up to 12 days. The OS is Internet Tablet OS 2007 edition.

The thing itself looks sweet with its controls and a stand on which you can make it lean back. I would definitely look into getting one of these but priced at 399 EUR (approx $520) it might be a little steep to just have the luxury to browse the web and store videos and music for a walk in the park.

Accessories include 1 GB and 2 GB micro SD cards, headphones, case and a navigation kit.

So will the Nokia Nseries N800 make a dent in the big bad world of electronics where a stylus was proclaimed as 'yuck' by Steve Jobs? Yeah sure, there's room for everybody even the guys who still think a stylus is cool.

Everybody Go To N800.
