Nope, I'm not kidding you. There is actually a site that does this sort of thing! Bid4Prizes has sponsored this review.
The concept is quite simple really, you register yourself, select your favorite prize and text the keyword with your bid amount, when the auction ends if you bid is the lowest unique bid you win it! Now for the catch.
It has to be the lowest unique bid, which means if you bid $2.49 and a bunch of other people bid anywhere from $0.01 to $2.48 multiple time but nobody else has bid $2.49 then you win. Of course you do not know what others are bidding.
You have two options to bid
- via your cell phone or
- online
You do not pay anything when you win, except for shipping and any taxes. By the way this competition is only open to residents of the U.S.
Now if I was living in the U.S and won something well I would keep the first thing I won and if I plan on giving away the rest of the stuff, provided I win it of course, then I wouldn't bid on something that I really wanted - the parting would just be excruciating.
So go ahead and have a look at bid4prizes to see if you get lucky and place that unique low bid. Can you imagine they are giving away a car right now that has a retail value of $154100 - Gadzooks!
Oh I just spotted something, they give you a hint, presently the lowest unique bid for the car is between 1 and 21 cents. Hmmm....I bid 14 cents.

My experience with bid4prizes
I bid on a Samsung 50“ Plasma TV entering bids one by one using only my fingers 9660 bids 1100 or so because I was worried I missed some. At that time according to their rules you were allowed to bid as often and many bids as you wanted. They have since changed that rule allowing only 20 bids daily. I spent days and hours upon hours bidding using only my fingers and my keyboard. Ten days after the bidding was done I received a letter delivered by FedEx Mail accusing me of using an automated bidding system and forfeited the prize that I had won. I have no idea of what that even is. I called them and left a message stating I did not know what they were talking about and please call back. Mr. Raymond Muzci (president of New Motion, parent company of Bid4prizes) in his call back responded his decision was finale. They will not give me any chance to prove to them that I followed all their rules to the tee. I am not a cheater and they have been totally unfair.
That totally sux.
Their competitor http://www.bidandwin.com (which hasn’t rolled out in the US just yet ) is coming soon so try playing here. Its only rolled out in the AU so far but the same person keeps winning. Let me know what you think though. I’d be very interested to know about your experience.
Sounds like u had a bad experience! I’ve played a couple of these mobile games and they weren’t too good. Been playing Knockout Bids for the last couple of days and it’s pretty good! http://www.playknockout.com check that one out guys!

Online gambling is illegal in the US and this is definitely what this or other “lowest unique bid auctions” variations are (even if not yet busted by the authorities).
To be considered online gambling, you need 3 criterias:
1) A consideration. Here you pay to bid. It is like purchasing a lottery ticket and you are most likely to get nothing in exchange but 1 chance out of N to win.
2) A game of chance, which will determine who the winner is. While some may argue that bidding requires some skills and determinism, many states actually don’t make any difference in their online gambling definition between skilled games and chance games. (Poker requires skills).
3) A Prize or the ability to win something of value. (or get nothing but wasting time and money).
This should be regulated as any other gambling business and not allowed to spread on greed and foolishness.
Many will pay to learn and eventually too much scam will kill this scam until a new variation or evolution of the scam comes around for new and fresh victims or short minded people.
Most scams are based on smart and sleek mechanisms. It does not make them right.
It reminds me of the guy that placed an ad in the news paper with:
How to become a millionaire?
Send 0.99 cents to receive the incredible secret. Success guaranteed or your money back.
I sent the 99 cents and received a letter saying: Just do like me!
By the way, the stock market could fit the definition but at least it is supposed to be regulated. You pay, You Play and most of the time you loose.
Are there organizations that provide foster homes, surrogate families halfway houses etc for green card lottery winners – i.e. a place to stay until they find their feet and a job and then a place of their own?
