My Brute is an awesome little online game that I’ve been playing for quite some time now. The premise is simple, you simply choose a username, choose your persona and start fighting. The best part is, the fights are automatic! You don’t need to push any buttons, learn moves or anything else for that matter. Just select your opponent and “Fight”.

As you progress in levels you are rewarded with bonuses, more weapons and even accomplices in the manner of dogs, a wolf or a bear. If you get a bear you can pretty much be certain you’ll never lose. Though My Brute has beaten a few bears in the time I’ve been playing so far.

I like the simplicity of the game and the basic fact that you can just watch automated fights. If you want to progress faster you can get people to sign up under you as pupils and you gain more experience points. The more experience points you get the more levels you advance. This is obviously open to manipulation which is the reason why you will quite a few “brutes” with weird usernames like XYXj211-B.

Once you cross 10 levels you can set up your own clan, though I’m a little fuzzy about what the benefit of forming a clan actually is.

You’ve probably heard of Google Buzz already and are probably really loving it or really hating it. I’m on the latter camp, that’s why it did not take me more than 1 day to realize I did not want my email inbox to turn into a social network.

Google admitted they made a pretty ass move of making everyone part of the network and you a part of everyone elses network by default! But what really sealed the deal for me in turning Buzz off was the constant notifications number beside my otherwise clear (OK, not so much) inbox. Add that to the fact that any service like this instantly becomes a “free traffic” outlet for everyone on your list. I don’t mind tweeting links out, or “liking” something but this is just a bit too…direct!

Yeah, no thanks. I like my email nice and quiet. I’ll visit the local hangout called twitter when I feel like socializing. Email is business and personal, the last thing I want it becoming is a social network.

There was a time when chatting was an innocent little pastime for the world’s IM users. Not anymore.

Chatroulette (Warning: you will come across nudity…and much worse on this site) is a website started by a Russian teenager Andrey Ternovskiy, 17, as something he and his buddies would enjoy. Well…seems like it kind of got out of hand and spread across the interwebs with a viral attitude. You would be hard pressed not to find some mention of Chatroulette on social sites like digg, reddit, stumbleupon etc…even the NY Times wrote an article about it.

In the handful of times I’ve visited that site I’ve been greeted with 2 second clips of random people before they disconnect and with people, usually male, pleasuring themselves.

Andrey said this about his site when interviewed by the NY Times -

I created this project for fun. Initially, I had no business goals with it. I created this project recently. I was and still am a teenager myself, that is why I had a certain feeling of what other teenagers would want to see on the Internet. I myself enjoyed talking to friends with Skype using a microphone and webcam. But we got tired of talking to each other eventually. So I decided to create a little site for me and my friends where we could connect randomly with other people.

I can see the novelty of meeting random strangers on the web, no strings attached, and just striking up a conversation but when you are greeted with a living, breathing and lubricated version of 4chan (you really should not Google that site) every other time you hit “Next” it kind of defeats the purpose of visiting.

Falong Holdings Ltd will become the legal owner of these domain names in the world.

Also, don’t worry because your domains names are COMPLETELY safe. My best advice would be to immediately call your domain registrar and let them know about these sorts of scams, if you ever receive them, and forward them copies of the email.

YouLiveSee is an interactive portal where you can create your own webcam portal. Basically what the site allows you to do is to set up a channel to broadcast yourself via your webcam.

From the outset the site looks very bare and offers little in terms of features. Maybe that was the intention of the owners of the site? If they want to be able to compete with similar services that are being offered right now they have a lot of work to be done.

First of all a better layout would not hurt. Social bookmarking features, a more interactive call to sign up for their service by showcasing the benefits right away would immensely help as well. The member profile pages could use a face lift as well.

I registered on the site to check out how it works. Basically you create a channel/topic of your choosing and decide if you want to just let certain users or everyone see and/or hear you. Or you can just have them see/hear you. Like any normal webcast. You can also make it public or private.

Quite a few services like YouLiveSee have cropped up on the web, most of which are successful. If they want to be able to make a difference in their service I suggest a serious overhaul in their website structure. The developers of this site have a good product, they just need to give it the “oomph” factor.

I find myself increasingly on reddit nowadays rather than digg. It’s not uncommon to find articles that I found on reddit over 2 days ago just becoming popular on digg. So that’s why I switched, plus the comments are just so much better. Be warned though there is a lot of NSFW content that gets linked to on reddit, it’s marked most of the time as that but you never know what you’re gonna get.

Apart from that I’m on Twitter a lot as well. I don’t tweet as much as the other people I follow but I tend to follow links that show up and most of the time it’s interesting stuff.

The rest of my social time is spent on facebook, IM and email. Naturally the bulk of my time is spent working with my sites online, and designing for others, but a guy’s gotta have a break. Y’know what I mean?

Most people would think having a one word domain is the ultimate web business plan, that is only till you realize that it’s not quite working out as you planned.

9. Advice.com – No advice here, just a parked page. I guess people must be wary of taking advice from other people online, I wonder why? Must have something to do with honesty?

10. Computer.com -It’s a good thing Apple didn’t call itself just Computer. Imagine their ads today – “Hi, I’m a PC” “…and, I’m a Computer” – Instant Fail.
