Since writing about iDrive almost three months ago the site has undergone some cosmetic changes and looks more user friendly than it did at that time. More Web 2.0 shall I say.
Let's look a bit more at their features now shall we. The free version offers you automated backup where all you need to do is schedule your tasks for any files and folders that you wish to retain in case of any security breach on your system. Once it is set everything is hands free.
Featuring a user-intuitive interface the data gets compressed and sent over a 128-bit SSL encrypted line. You can view and restore up to 30 different versions of your files. Which means, in case you make some changes to say a Photoshop template that you are working on and the client liked the previous version better all you have to do is look into your IDrive-E Online Backup account and restore that version, provided you scheduled the file/folder to be backed up of course.
There are two versions of the free program, the IDrive-E Classic and IDrive- E Explorer.
- IDrive-E Classic is application interface where you once you install the software and configure all the rest is taken care of by automatically. No need to touch it again, except for configuration changes.
- IDrive-E Explorer is a "read only" view of the data that you have backed up and all files that have been configured for backup can be easily restored by simply dragging and dropping.
Other features also include syncing, advanced data encryption, a world-class infrastructure and more. The free version offers you 2GB of free backup space and you can upgrade anytime to a Pro version. Pricing for which starts at $49.50/year.

What a great idea to have free online file storage! Last year I lived in Florida and 2 of my computers got fried due to lightning. This really could have saved me! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the post. I came across your blog on time. I was in search of a credible online backup service to securely backup my files and folders.
After reading your blog and trying out the IDrive-E features, I personally felt that IDrive-E is more of an integrated online data management solution. It not only allows safe storage of data, but also enables retrieval of data whenever I need it.
I have been enormously benefited by IDrive-E that mapped my Online Backup account as a network drive on to my computer. I was able to drag-and-drop files from the online location to my computer, open, edit and save files in the online backup account, as if the files are on my local computer.
Moreover, the Bandwidth throttle can be used to control the bandwidth taken by IDrive-E during online backup if you want to efficiently use other net applications at the same time. The 2 GB free storage space with all the features in the basic plan is more than enough for me. Moreover their website is easily maneuverable for first time users. http://www.idrive.com
For me, its IDrive-E, guys. Taking chances with new comers is always dicey.
