Chatroulette, Webcam Chatting Gone Wild

There was a time when chatting was an innocent little pastime for the world's IM users. Not anymore.

Chatroulette (Warning: you will come across nudity...and much worse on this site) is a website started by a Russian teenager Andrey Ternovskiy, 17, as something he and his buddies would enjoy. Well...seems like it kind of got out of hand and spread across the interwebs with a viral attitude. You would be hard pressed not to find some mention of Chatroulette on social sites like digg, reddit, stumbleupon etc...even the NY Times wrote an article about it.

In the handful of times I've visited that site I've been greeted with 2 second clips of random people before they disconnect and with people, usually male, pleasuring themselves.

Andrey said this about his site when interviewed by the NY Times -

I created this project for fun. Initially, I had no business goals with it. I created this project recently. I was and still am a teenager myself, that is why I had a certain feeling of what other teenagers would want to see on the Internet. I myself enjoyed talking to friends with Skype using a microphone and webcam. But we got tired of talking to each other eventually. So I decided to create a little site for me and my friends where we could connect randomly with other people.

I can see the novelty of meeting random strangers on the web, no strings attached, and just striking up a conversation but when you are greeted with a living, breathing and lubricated version of 4chan (you really should not Google that site) every other time you hit "Next" it kind of defeats the purpose of visiting.
