Some bloggers like to play it safe, some tread on a fine line and the rest really couldn't give a damn! But in general they are either Naughty or Nice. Which one are you?
If you are a celebrity blogger you really have no choice but to be naughty to get some serious traffic and make some cash. Because seriously who wants to know what celebrities are wearing. Most people want to know what they're not wearing?! {just to clarify, I'm not one of those people}
I've been critical a few times in the past here, except for WidgetBucks where I was brutal. If you tend to do paid reviews somehow your tone always tend to be flat, I experienced that myself. I found that my opinion just toned down, that may explain why I've refused around $500 in paid reviews recently. Mostly for ethical reasons but also because I just did not like the product and felt I could not even write about them in a neutral tone.
There may have even been the odd chance that I was critical, but usually reserving myself before I became overtly so.
I remember when the original John Cow had his blog he did not mind being naughty. In fact, that probably only fueled his popularity. This is not to say that the content on there is not good now, but that his popularity grew as a result of being naughty.
You can also be naughty/sarcastic with a sense of humor, if you know how to carry yourself in your writing. That would probably help you gain more traction than providing another "Top Ten" list. Unless you are cracked.com and use their list style posts as inspiration.
I would like to say that I tread that fine line in between, I like to read, and write, stuff that makes me think. So I guess I'm not really nice and not really naughty either
