This post is part of "August - Make Money Online Month”
Making money with a WordPress blog couldn't be simpler these days. With a huge community that supports and actively develops plugins you can cut out ad networks and middle men and go solo. Here are some of the best plugins and tools that can give you financial independence. {personal results may vary}
- OIO Publisher - OIO helps a blogger connect with their advertisers directly. Using their plugin you can sell paid reviews and links on your blog. Plus, its all automated. Set your own prices and get paid instantly by advertisers. They even have a hosted version and a marketplace where you can list your blog. Visit OIO Publisher.
- WP Text Ads - This is similar to OIO Publisher but has two versions. One is a paid license for $127 with no limits, the other is free with limits placed on how many ads you can sell. They also have a marketplace where you can list your blog. The guy behind the plugin offers a 180 day money back guarantee - if you don't make your investment back in that time he will refund your money. Something that might interest you, if you are into it, is the API that he has put out which can let you further customize the plugin to provide more value to your advertiser. Visit WP Text Ads.
- WP Bankroll - Strictly for selling sponsored posts on your blog. You can set the amount of outgoing links per post, minimum word count and the post cost among other features. Comes in three versions - the unlimited license for $49.99 lets you use it on every blog you own, single license for $19.99 lets you use it on only one blog, the free version offers the same functionality but includes a link back to WP Bankroll. Visit WP Bankroll.
- RSS feed ads - You can sell ads in your feed too! Instead of waiting for Feedburner to approve your blog for their FAN network just download the feed footer plugin which allows you to add text and images as well. No limits on word count. The plugin is perfect for a blitz campaign for an advertiser.
- RSS feed ads 2 - If you have already signed up with Text Link Ads they offer you the chance to keep some RSS feed ad spots from your inventory for yourself. Just let your readers know that these spots are available, along with putting the info on your advertising page. You can show affiliate promotions in these spots till you get an advertiser on board.
- Open Ads - This is a powerful tool that can let you truly take advantage of the power of direct ad sales on your blog or site. Provided you have the traffic, of course. Check out Open Ads.
- For sale by publisher - Having all these plugins and stuff is cool, but you still need an advertiser to find you. For sale by publisher offers a marketplace where you can list all your blogs for free. Read how you can sell direct ads with their marketplace.
If you know of any plugins I may have missed please mention them in the comments.

I’ve signed up for For Sale By Publisher but haven’t really taken the time to put all my information in it.
I’ve been using AdVolcano to sell text ads on my blog and haven’t had a lot of luck with it. I’m not sure exactly what I’m doing wrong. Maybe I should approach some websites and ask them if they would like to advertise on my blog.
I’ve also thought about selling text ads in my feeds but I think it would be best for me to just focus and raising my rss subscriber numbers.
You got the most important part right. Focus. Just do that for now and trust me you’ll be fine.
Hi,
I’m the developer of WP Text Ads.
I’d just like to add on to what you have said. WP Text Ads lets bloggers sell home page, whole blog, and per-post ads, so advertisers have multiple options to spend their ad money.
There are currently 2 plugins built using the API. One plugin allows those ads to appear in RSS/Atom feeds, and the other places the buy link at the end of each post.
Either way, the API can be used to create plugins that make it more desirable to buy ads on a blog.
Thanks for the mention! Deeply appreciate it. If anyone has questions, you can get me at alexchoowk @ wptextads.com
Sometime, I just don’t get those plugin. For private ads and sponsor, all you need is put up your advertisement rate and your contact form. For finding a advertiser market place, you can go to the forum, it’s faster.
You basically need this two things for all your private sponsor, unless the plugin become really mature and solve all the negotiation problem for getting sale in different type of advertisement agreement and discount. For me, I will wait. Anyway, this is just my personal thought.
Nice list of money makers, that is what I am looking for all the time.
I have just recently signed up for http://www.sponsoredreviews.com (3days ago) and I have already had two advertisers accept my review!
They are another option to check out.
