Should You Still Be Blogging About Blogging?

  • Posted under: Blogging on August 24, 2008

Most of the good stuff that you can write about blogging itself has been blogged about. If you have a blog on the topic of blogging and have not seen a substantial rise in your profile in a reasonable frame of time, like 6 months, then it’s time to move on.

Here are my top ten reasons why you should not start a blog about blogging, or get out of if you already are -

  1. In order for you to get your name out there as an authority on blogging it’s going to take way too long and more than twice the effort you will be able to put in – in other words it’s nearly impossible.
  2. The web is overflowing with blogs on blogging, basically it’s a crowded echo chamber.
  3. If you think you’ll be able to raise your profile simply by writing post after post with top ten lists you won’t get far.
  4. Writing original content on the topic of blogging is virtually impossible – even the bloggers that write about it just repeat themselves every six months.
  5. Do you really know that much about blogging than the next person out there?
  6. Nobody cares anymore about a blog on blogging.
  7. Frankly, it’s not interesting.
  8. Having a blog about blogging was cool in 2006. If you didn’t start then and didn’t make progress soon after chances are you never will.
  9. YOU are not original, that’s probably why you will start a blog on blogging. Before you do so, stop and think, really THINK.
  10. If you think the guys on top will read your sweetly worded email to check out your blog and link to you because you believe you have original content. They won’t. There’s nothing in it for them – What? You think they have a day job?

In other words, if you don’t have a personal success story {a really big one} with your own blog, about any topic, don’t bother sharing your content on a blog about blogging.

  1. Jeez Hyder aren’t you being a little harsh? Hah hah, I agree with you about most of what you said but I still think if you actually know a little about what you’re talking about then you can be at least somewhat successful.

  2. This really is true. Starting any blog and writing about something you know nothing about is fruitless and pointless. If you’ve never blogged you aren’t an expert and should write about it. It’s like they say in screenwriting, write what you know and if you plan on making a business out of your blogging, you need to blog what you know. Write what you are passionate about and don’t worry about the money…it will come eventually.

  4. Chris, yeah I’m being harsh. It’s the only way to make an impact ;)

James, thanks for the comment. Blogging should be about what you are passionate about. Not another “How to Increase Your Adsense Earnings On Your Posts” Blog.

  5. that is why i like to blog about niche topics not about blogging hehehe. it should always be a blog with topics that you like.
