This is the final part in my “Idea Building” series, you can read the first two here -
Watching your idea come to life bit by bit is an experience in itself. But it is also a time of focus, you need to make sure that all the steps going into it’s production are the right ones. With web related products it’s best to release a beta version of your setup, software or online service while you get ready for it’s real launch - as is pretty much the norm nowadays.
User Feedback Is Important
User feedback is probably the most important factor in making your idea better than you thought conceivable. As an example just look at some of the web development software out there like Flash and Dreamweaver, or PHP and MySQL. The kind of products and applications that people are making out of these software’s are just amazing. The best part is that it keeps getting better with time. So don’t be afraid if your product gets criticized at first, that’s a sign that someone actually took the time to tear it apart - which means they care.
Use Your Product
Ever wonder if the CEO of Coca-Cola drinks a can everyday of their own product? Then again, if I was the CEO of Coca-Cola I’d probably drink Arizona Iced Tea. Don’t build a product you wouldn’t use yourself, because then you will ultimately lose the love of it and it just becomes a “business”. Sure, the money may be great. Personally for me, there’s more to life than having a huge bank account number.
Using your product, while taking into account user feedback, will help you keep perspective of what else you would like to do with it. That way your love for it will only increase and your product will retain it’s original exuberance - the one you had when you jumped out of bed in the middle of the night and started writing it down on a piece of paper.
So go out there and think up new ideas, develop them and watch them come to life. It doesn’t matter if it’s web or real world related as long as you are having fun with it.
