Benefits of Blogging In Advance

fluidity.jpgI wrote this post yesterday, but you are seeing it today. In fact, most of my posts this week have been written a day in advance and I’m actually beginning to like it. This has not only given me more time to concentrate on other things when I get my day started, but I also feel that I write more fluidly as a result of it.

In the past, I’ve hopped around various media sites, my email, other blogs, new product launches etc… to add my voice to the latest “in” thing. Not anymore, somehow I just don’t see any urgency in regurgitating what everyone has already said.

I’d rather start a conversation on things that would interest you and me leaving all the other “reporting” to…well the other guys. So here’s some of the benefits I’m beginning to see by blogging in advance.

Increase Your Blogging Fluidity

  • Your voice starts to change, well not literally. But your written word is your voice, and that starts to become more pronounced and take a tone of its own. Somehow knowing that you’ve already said something {as yesterday’s post is already published while I’m writing this} is making me write things that have a personality of their own.
  • My blogging has gotten more smooth. I have a few other blogs that have been running dry and I actually got around to finally updating them. Pretty soon I’m going to all have them on future-publish. I wonder how prolific I’ll be able to make myself when that happens?
  • I’m writing posts faster than I ever have in the past. That’s because I finally feel that I’m not constrained by any time limits just to make sure that my post gets published before the East Coast or Asia wake up. I just set them to get “published” at a certain time and that’s it. You can have your morning coffee with me :-)
  • I can always do a quickie post {wow the sun just came out for like 20 mins, after a whole week!} in between the day whenever I feel like. I’ve noticed that when I do smaller more abrupt posts you tend to come out and comment more than normal. {first one to comment on this post gets a free copy of WP Auctions Gold!}
  • There’s more room in my head for umm…let’s see money making ideas, design ideas, new post ideas etc…when I know that I don’t have to rush myself, or think of something, just so that I don’t have a dry blog.

Apart from that it’s just a whole lot easier to get through the day when you’re thinking up post content by yourself rather than trying to nab a idea from other bloggers.

I guess that’s the main difference between a Pro and a rookie.

  1. Thanks for the tip Hyder. I am in the early days of setting up my own blog and think this approach might come in handy.

    Do you think future publishing will work better in some types of blogs rather than others?

  2. Note that if you are using WordPress 2.5 and you are posting a blog post in advance, if the timestamp is less than an hour from the time you click the publish button it will publish immediately instead of the time you change the timestamp to.

    Although this is a known issue, not very many people are complaining about it yet (I’m one of the few).

    Just thought this would be some valuable information.

  4. Thanks for the heads up Michael, though I like to future publish my posts a day in advance. ;-)
