There have been some recent transactions in the blogosphere with blogs being sold, most notable of whom was WPDesigner.com, also there was bloggingexperiment.com that exchanged owners. WP Designer went for $65,000, yes that’s right, and bloggingexperiment for an undisclosed 5 figure sum.
This means that blogs are still seen by investors as a good buy. If you are thinking of selling your blog in the future, here’s a few tips you might want to check before you decide to sell -
- Try showing value rather than just how much money you make on a monthly basis. Be it in search engine rankings, linkbacks, a dedicated readership etc..
- Before you sell, try and do some sort of promotions for your blog to increase readership and exposure of your blog.
- Clean up your blog. No one likes to see a blog plastered with ads, especially if they’re not private advertisements. Showing as many CPC ads as possible, as a source of income, just takes your value down a notch. At the least make sure that your home page does not show CPC ads. The single post pages don’t matter that much.
- Try and get yourself linked back from popular blogs, this adds value when potential buyers know that the “big boys” know about your blog.
- Know how much you are worth. If you think your content, domain name, age of blog, etc…are worth a certain amount then make sure you can explain why.
- Tell the new owner that you can stick around for the transition, if you can, for a set number of days or weeks just so that your readers get that same fuzzy feeling.
- Be ready to answer questions, honestly.
There’s many more things that can be done, but those are probably some of the more important ones.
As an example I’m going to try and evaluate how much this blog is worth to me.
- I have about 2 years of content in this blogs archives.
- I’ve been linked back by many blogs, from ProBlogger, John Chow, Shoemoney and hundreds more blogs. Not too mention PC World, Tech.MSN.com and other media publications.
- I’ve been on the digg front page once last year. Many of my posts are popular on StumbleUpon.
- 55% of my traffic is from other sites, the rest from search engines.
- 25,000 uniques a month, increasing at the rate of 12% a month.
- Unique blog theme
- I’ve launched many other sites through this blog, all doing successfully by themselves now
- High rankings for some very very prized search terms {will only be revealed if you’re interested
} - At the peak my blog was bringing in over $1,000 a month. I’ve relaxed on monetization of this blog lately because I’m too busy with other projects I’ve launched through here.
- Attached job board, though it’s kind of dry presently. Nothing that can’t be fixed.
- and a whole lot more…
Taking into account all of the above I would probably value myself somewhere around $20,000 - $30,000. Of course, if you happen to offer more I’m not one to decline.
Which brings me to ask you. If you decide to sell your blog, How much do you think your blog is worth?

The value of any blog is without limitation as it is down to what an individual buyer is prepared to offer for it however, in this instance, I would agree with your valuation. I just hope my blog gets to be as busy and as popular as yours
