Hack Your Mid-Week Routine To Enjoy The Coming Weekend

A reader, Special Pete, asked if I could do an article on how to hack your mid-week routine to enjoy the weekend better. So here I am obliging him, and for the benefit of all other readers, with some tips I used to apply when I had a 9 - 5 job.

The daily grind of work can get to you especially if you find yourself in a loop of working too hard during the week, and not getting enough rest on the weekend. Here are the tips I previously wrote for having a more relaxed weekend while getting ready to be more productive on the weekdays.

Now, here are 3 quick tips to…

Get Out of The Loop - Have a Good Week & an Even Better Weekend

  • You know in today’s world where a lot of “office work” is handled by computers it is quite possible to take your work home with you, or to a cafe for that matter. Try and make a deal with your boss to set one weekday aside where you can take your work out of the office. As an experiment to try and increase your productivity. You never know, he/she might just say yes. Naturally you probably won’t be allowed to spend the entire day out of the office, so aim for Thursday’s or Friday’s after lunch and report back with what you’ve done on Monday. This could very well tie in with my suggestion to work 2 hours on the weekend with stuff related to your job. {who knows, soon you may just get to work from home!}
  • Exchange your job related tasks/duties, whatever, with a colleague. Take on their job and let them take yours for a day, or after lunch…for an hour! Just so that you can break out of your routine. I used to work as an office manager at a restaurant. Being bored upstairs {I would wrap up most of my work by lunch} I would go downstairs and see what needed help with in the kitchen, the gift shop or if some guests just needed talking too. This helped me learn more about the restaurant business than I ever imagined, I could start my own chain with the info I gathered. Even when I worked as a sales man, I would sometimes go over to the other department just to see whats up and help out if needed. Naturally, soon everyone came to me for help, because I just knew so damn much about everything. Then I flew out, because I got sick of it all.
  • The boring part about jobs is the monotony of it. The same stuff, different day. Online stuff is pretty much the same too, so I’m no better off than you. I get tired of the repetition of staring at a screen, though I can always shut it off. You will probably not get that option at work. So instead try to put yourself in a frame of thought. Don’t try and work as hard as you can, work smart. This has been repeated by most everyone who has written a list of tips. If you’re going home exhausted from work, ask yourself what it is that makes you so tired? Then fix that area.

Enjoy your week!

  1. Thanks very much for writing the article. Some very interesting tips. I particularly like the exchange your job idea.

    For me the boring part of work, in addition to the monotony, is having someone else tell you what to do.

  3. You’re welcome SpecialPete. I can totally relate to your other point about someone else telling you what to do. That’s why I freelance.
