In Part 1 of “The A-List” series I touched upon the basic premise of being prolific along with a few of the most common scenario’s that lead to one becoming a ‘ProBlogger’. In this part I’m going to talk a little about the stuff that bloggers write.
From a breaking news story, life experiences, tips and tricks and so on bloggers write a lot of stuff on a variety of topics. The most common element here is that they are seen as the source for particular types of information.
The fact is, everyone draws their information from something.
If You Don’t Have A Source Of Information, Get One
Many break-out bloggers have one thing in common, well…they break out onto the scene due to something they’ve either written about, discovered or developed.
Cases to point are
- John Chow with his posts that kept going digg front page after front page after front page… From then on there was no looking back. What exactly made him break out? Well he’s been on the internet for quite a long time, much before he started blogging. He just wrote about what he knew, and where he eats when he dines out. That’s it really. His blog is now on auto-bury with digg, but he carries on.
- Leo Babauta of Zen Habits seems to hit homeruns where ever he blogs. Be it his own blog, or guest posts on others. What made him break out? Mostly a lot of networking and writing content from his own life experiences. That’s where he got his stories. Him and the people around him.
- Paul Borque of UberAffiliate. Affiliate superstar at the tender age of 19. When I was 19 all I did was use hotmail! {I’m 29 now, and I use gmail} As you can guess he broke out on the blogosphere due to his immense success in affiliate marketing. Wouldn’t we all like to know what he does. Well it’s quite simple really and I’ll tell it to you in one word. Action.
And many many more such examples litter the blogosphere. They are all now seen as being A-List sources of information for their respective interests.
But is there more to it than just front page diggs, content and ppc tips? Yes there is.
You can provide as much information as you like and not make into the A-list blogging arena unless you have some charisma. Something that sets you apart from the rest of the crowd. People need to relate too you for certain information, and your writing style needs to portray that you yourself are interested in it. It can be celebrity gossip, just look at Perez Hilton!, how to be a photoshop rockstar – PSD Tuts for eg., or it can just be about blogger gossip and writing scandals about them – ahem! John Cow!
So whatever it is you get into with blogging, remember just be the source.
May the source be with you! {sorry, I couldn’t resist}
