The Day In The Life Of A ProBlogger

Since Mr. Cow posted details about his grueling day as a ProBlogger I thought I’d let you guys in on my day. Can I say I’m a ProBlogger, well let’s see -

  • I do make money with my blog/s
  • I use my blog/s to leverage other web products I develop
  • This is my full time job

So yeah, I guess you could call me a Pro.

Morning

I try to get up before dawn, sometimes I succeed, sometimes I don’t. If I do manage to laze myself out of bed I get some spiritual breakfast first and then <– stretch –> a bit. The kitchen usually serves as the morning blog center, I take my laptop to the table there and start posting.

This actually helps be me more productive as the 2 hour battery life of the laptop forces me to concentrate on writing and nothing else. So I’m in fourth gear at this point of time. Checking stats and money can come later on in the day from the desktop.

It’s now 7:30. Buzz, there’s the alarm! Time to wake the boy up, got to get him ready for school. The girl is up too now. This is easy just put her next to mom, instant breakfast – or whatever was for dinner the night before, if y.k.w.i.m.

8:15, time to get out and get to school before the bell rings. It’s a good thing the school is a stone’s throw away. Back at home, I got our breakfast being prepared duly by my better half. We’re done with breakfast by 9:15. Cool, now I can check my stats and see how much money I made while I was sleeping. Ain’t it cool!

It’s already 10: 45! Wow, that’s a lot of stats checking huh. Well boys and girls, what can I say the key here is diversification. I also like to skim through our RSS feeds in this time so that I can get some ideas.

Afternoon

I’ve gotten my posts out of the way, checked email a bit and browsed through a few feeds. I dare not visit digg, reddit or get stumbling, because then there goes the afternoon. So instead I see which of my lovely blog design clients needs attention first. We’ll leave the ones that don’t pay on time aside for now. It’s only business folks, if you don’t set your rules you won’t get anywhere.

Right, got our work laid out for us, time to get designing. XHTML/CSS/PHP etc…I just thrive on this stuff. Creating something from a blank document is truly the best release for a digital artist. So now that I’m high on pixel placements – I open up Internet Explorer to spend the better half of my time making everything work for it. Probably the worst thing imaginable for a web page coder.

Lunch, tea time and some occasional chatter with other ProBloggers on the net makes the afternoon flow by briskly. It’s fun to see who is going to get exposed next, or who is selling their wares or what knock-out tips online friends and peers are posting.

Evening

This time is usually better in Spring and Summer because the day is longer and you feel like you can just work forever. However family is important, so I spend time with kids {they’re constantly around anyway, remember I work from home}. We make it a point to have dinner together and watch some good TV shows mixed with some Power Rangers.

It’s now 8:00 PM, the girl is ready for bed. The boy needs a little bit more time before he goes around 9:00 PM. OK, they’re all asleep now by 9:15 PM.

I feel like some mint tea, what about you?

Let’s see what new emails are in, read, respond. Now let’s get on with some digging and stumbling. Around 30 to 45 minutes sounds good enough.

It’s now around 10:15 PM. I decide to shut down and stretch my body before I jump into bed, otherwise I won’t be able to do this for many more months or years to come.

So there you have it ladies and gentlemen the day in the life of this ProBlogger. Don’t forget to enter my competition to win a ProBlogger Book.
