5 TV Channels You Should Be Watching For Inspiration

Working at home can be very liberating, it can also be a tad bit boring and distracting as you constantly feel the urge to either eat something or watch some TV to kill time. So while we try to get back to work why not spend the time you do in front of the TV anyway by watching some quality content. You could get some really wild ideas for your online business, blog or what have you.

After all, if you’re all about quality content online, why not go for quality content offline as well!

Viewing Voyeurism: A Bloggers Guide To Quality TV

1. Travel Channel - If you don’t watch the travel channel, it’s about time that you do! Right after the morning news, whenever I do watch that, I usually flip on over to this channel to check where the hosts are taking me right after breakfast. Some of the programs are quite entertaining, plus you get to see a whole host of cultures that you probably will not get the chance to experience in your lifetime. Great stuff for inspiration.

2. Discovery Channel - What more can be said about this channel, that hasn’t already been said yet. I love American Chopper, MythBusters, Dirty Jobs and a host of other shows here. I don’t get as much time to watch it as I wish. Some great content on this channel for people who constantly like to blog about stuff that they’ve never heard off. The MythBusters showed me that you can actually take off with a bunch of helium filled weather balloons while sitting in a lawn chair. I need to try that out one day.

3. National Geographic - If you are not in touch with the real world around, the world that you don’t see. Like the millions of ants and termites that are probably below the ground you live on right now or the history of the Mayan temples, then you need to watch this channel. Gives you a broader view of the roles that each and every single thing plays in the fine balance we call life.

4. CNN/BBC - You need your daily news, that’s how you know about the things happening in the world around you. How can news be inspirational you say? Well, it’s not just news all the time on these channels. They do have some quality programming. I like to watch Inside the Middle East on CNN and on BBC I try and catch Click.

5. Animal Planet - This is a great little channel to watch when you there is literally nothing else on TV. There’s always some kitten, bunny, puppy or crocodile for that matter doing something. It has lost some of its attraction ever since the Steve Irwin passed on. But it’s still a great resource of information that can be inspirational.

Most of these channels are available worldwide through your local cable provider. However if you have any specific channel you just can’t turn off, no matter how many times you’ve seen the same show then please share it with us in the comments.

  1. Food Network! Between Ace of Cakes, Throwdown with Bobby Flay, Iron Chef America, and (sometimes, when there’s nothing else on) Unwrapped, they always have some high production values.

And they’ve got Giada De Laurentiis, Nigella Lawson, and the always inimitable Anthony Bourdain. I could watch these three chefs non-stop and be a happy, sated, enlightened diner.

    But Giada. Yummmmmmmy

  3. Matthew I would have included Food Network too, but I don’t live in the U.S. I used to watch it while there, but not anymore.

Too bad they took Emeril off though. He really kicked it up a notch.
