No Hurries, No Worries - Your Blog Will Survive
I’ve been away for just over a week with a posting frequency of .67 posts per day. The blog has not suffered in terms of RSS readership and traffic. Even the number of comments was satisfactory. I had a huge hit with my handwritten post at the beginning of the month, linked to by ProBlogger and a lot of other bloggers. So what does this tell you?
Chill
Your blog will survive, and possibly grow, if you give it the right kind of attention. Writing as much as you can, can have its adverse affects as one day your momentum will slow down. I mean, it’s not like your Reuters or CNN where the relay of information depends on your reporting. Unless you are trying to beat out other sources, then go ahead.
I wish I had started blogging at a less restrictive pace in the early days itself, like 5 posts a week, with more matter and thought behind each post. Going forward this is how I plan on doing so, on this blog.
It’s amazing how your perspective of the world changes from 40,000 ft in the air. You just feel so small. So whatever difference you can make through your personal/business/advice ramblings on your blog can have profound effect on someone on the other side of the world. Explaining to people that I make money online, and how I make some of it via blogging, was mostly greeted by, “Can you show me how to do that as well?” or “Never thought that would be possible!” - which was kinda cool.
Jet Set Blogging
If you ever come across the scenario where you are going on a vacation, or a trip, and you feel like you will be letting your readers down with the decrease in posting frequency, here are some tips for Jet Set Blogging -
- Instead of writing entire posts, write down titles. If time permits put down your initial thoughts and build on it later, from wherever you are. Face it you will check your email at least once a day, if you have your title and initial write up ready your blog post can be done in a few minutes.
- Do picture posting - I did a few picture posts, and one clever handwritten one. Saved me a ton of time, AND kept my readers interested.
- If you are unplugging and going off, hire a writer. I feel the last thing you should turn to is time stamping your posts. New writers can possibly give your blog a fresh perspective that it might so badly need.
- News happens, do a quick post to provide your point of view. That’s why your readers subscribe to your feed.
I think we are coming to a point where blogging is becoming more of a standard feature of our lives. It doesn’t matter who breaks the story anymore or who makes the longest list, as was the case in 2007, but about who does it with the best point of view.

Interesting perspective. Terrible pun intended
But do you think that maybe, given the millions of similarly socially-programmed human beings on the Internet - we may be running out of unique perspectives? History has this terrible way of sidelining the very unique perspectives - like Galileo. Or Hitler.
Okay, so maybe that’s a bit extreme. But still - you can only be so unique, before you start to stand out from the crowd.
I’m very sure I’ll be making use of some of those tips. I usually come across some really funny stuff in my daily travels - both online and off.
And I checked out the handwritten post. Very clever, by the way (!) - but I’m not sure that Google will be able to pay revenue for clicks on the “visit the King’s palace and have dinner with his brides” ad…
Anyway. Thanks for being so un-mainstream in a content- and delay-driven world
~ Wogan
My blog still survives for a sole reason that it’s running on clicks on serps and not on readers for which I have been unable to produce frequent (at least regular) posts.
Wogan - You’re right about Google. They didn’t credit me for the clicks.
Jalaj - A lot of my traffic is SERP based as well, need to change that.
