Avot mV: Now Showing Video On A Cellphone Near You

Posted by Hyder on December 17th, 2007

Now that 2007 is finally drawing to a close there are two things that you should know. Internet Video killed the TV Star and you can now watch endless skateboarding dog videos on your mobile phone thanks to the iPhone, and Avot mV.

Avot mV - In a nutshell

logo-homeavot.jpgAvot mV is a premier video delivery platform for iPhone/iPod Touch. It enables users to search, personalize and play videos from all over the Internet, Avot mV - Product Site.

The Bigger Picture

videoavotmv.jpgHonored with a “Staff Pick” solution from Apple themselves, the site allows you to view virtually any video online with unlimited access. If you have an iPhone, or a web enabled phone, simply point it to http://avotmv.com and you will see a screen full of thumbnails. From here on it’s up to you what you want to see. If you are on a PC you can still watch videos in all their “mobile screen” enhanced glory as well. {don’t know why anyone would you want to do that via their PC?}

The interface has a few buttons namely - Home, Channels, My Favs, vBox, Search, Merlin? and login. Yes, you can register with their service over your iPhone/iPod Touch or “regular” mobile phone and create your profile.

I tried the search feature via my PC and it worked pretty fast, don’t know if it would work the same on a mobile phone or iPhone? Hopefully it shows the results while you type as it did on my PC. The interface is very bare bones, and rightfully so, as mobile screen real estate is quite scarce.

For those wondering if their device is supported or not, here is a full list of supported devices with more being added over time.

The video quality was not that great on my PC, I can only expect what it might be on a cellphone. For screenshots of how it looks on an iPhone visit the Official Blog.

I do not surf the web via my cellphone, but I would probably do so if I had an iPhone - for testing purposes mostly. This is a great little app that would help you pass your commuting and other times of boredom.

As far as monetization is concerned there are no ads that I could spot while browsing the video interface on my PC, but I imagine they will think of something. You can read more about Avot mV and the great team behind them on their Corporate Site.
