What Topic Would You NEVER Blog About?

Posted by Hyder on November 12th, 2007

We all have our favorite blogging topics be it Technology, Web Startups, Making Money Online, stuff about Blogging itself, among many others. But there are always a few topics that every blogger has no inclination nor desire to post an article on.

There are mainly three reasons for that -

  1. Not interested in the topic
  2. You simply have no opinion about it or
  3. Some topics just don’t match your morals

Blogging is all a matter of opinion. Everyone has an opinion on everything. So why do some of us refrain from expressing our opinion on certain topics. After all our opinion can be negative as well, right? Let’s explore a little bit into the above three mentioned reasons.

Not Interested In The Topic

Virtually everyday something big happens around the world, online or in your backyard. But you don’t blog about it simply because it might not hold any interest to you, or your readers for that matter. People resonate with topics that hold interest to them, same with your blog. You will only blog about something if you have the slightest level of interest in the topic. If you don’t, you just read other people’s opinion on it and move on to what you do best.

No Opinion On Topic

Sometimes you just have no opinion on stuff. As an example, I do not know much about insurance, finance and mortgages hence I have no opinion about those topics. Positive or negative.

I would probably never blog about those topics as well, unless I get into the finance industry or buy a house. Only after going through an experience, and learning from it, can I form an opinion on it.

Personal Morals

Generally speaking I would not blog about some topics such as porn, because it is morally not right for me. Some don’t mind doing so, I’m not saying they have lesser morals than me, I’m just saying that’s something I would not associate myself with.

What about you, What topics would you never blog about?

I would never blog about personal things on my blog. however on my personal/marketing one I would. But I would never post about porn, or gambling websites.

  2. chipseo

I would probably never want to write an article about a topic I knew nothing about or didn’t care anything about. It may be harder to write on topics you a VERY passionate about, like your last topic. Not the subject, just something you were passionate about.

Faith topics usually light a fire real fast and I would post on that topic since it has more meaning to me, but I would probably do it in what I would consider a more appropriate venue, probably not on a MMO or business blog, but who knows. :)

    Nice article, Scott

    Umm…@chipseo

    Who’s Scott :?:

  4. Ellie

I probably wouldn’t blog about religion - just because that’s one thing that people get really up in arms about, and it’s not worth the drama to blog about it.

  5. Beth

I would never blog about sex or religion. I don’t like reading about someone’s Friday night escapade and I would never push my beliefs on someone else and I would expect the same courtesy.

  6. betshopboy

Religion is a topic I’ll never touch on.

  7. mercutiom

Professional sports, I could never blog about professional sports. I just care.

  8. Nenad

I would never blog about things I don’t care. Also would never blog about things in which I have very little interest or a little knowledge beside these things I would blog about everything, be it sex, be it religion or gambling. I would also blog about personal feeling or pesonal emotional situation if that would have readers which are interested on this topic.

You can blog about religion, if your blog suits it. If your blog’s main theme is about you, I mean everything about you. Why should you hold back on topics that you feel strongly about?

I would have to say that personal issues is definitely something to stay away from when blogging.
