John Cow Hacked!
Looks like JohnCow has been hacked! The blog right now says in usual hacker style “This Blog is Hacked! If we do not receive $100 in 24 hrs cow gets well done!!!“
He just posted something about another blogger getting hacked recently I wonder if the same guys hacked his blog? Cow is on my IM list and trust me he’s really sweating it right now. The hacker seems to have also changed his host login info and the only way out is if Cow gives him the the $100! Funnily enough the hacker has a sense of humor and is only taking $1 donations one at a time? I wonder what’s the reasoning behind that?
This is what the blog looks like right now -

It’s obviously not really hacked. I’m sure this is some stupid money making scheme to make headlines and get linkbacks. It’d be nice to see people making money in legitimate ways.
I don’t know if I believe this or not. Didn’t they play a similar joke on us earlier this year?
I’ll just keep my eyes open to see what’s going to happen next.
sounds very much like a well planned marketing ploy.
Most likely it is a joke. But a smart one.
Funny, very funny. I’m surprised it’s still up to be honest, you’d think enough of the n00bs out there would go along with the joke.
poor cow, but I too wouldn’t be surprised if it was a hoax given the nature of the cow..lol
Bad Cow, nice idea!
[…] The “hackers” posted the first image up there and included a PayPal button to ease the process of paying to “free the cow”. Payment is made to a johncow.com email address, of course. John’s not in it alone, though. It appears to me that Everybodygoto.com is an accomplice. Click and read to see what I’m talking about. Other blogs all over the internet are linking in droves while covering the “hack”. […]
what a work of art! if you say it’s stupid, the fact that you’re commenting on it means it worked!
My site got hacked too…. nooooooooooooooooooooooo
[…] Although I had planned to make a post on crowded niches, a recent occurrence in the blogosphere has inspired me into talking about the difference between actual marketing and dumb tricks and believe me there is a difference. Now, perhaps some of you have heard about John Cow being “hacked” and how it’s being held up for ransom money….$100 in paypal in 24 hours. Well if you haven’t, good for you, but in case you want to hear the “story” here’s a link to some of the coverage. […]

I hate these people taking their readers for a ride. I just bid goodbye to the cow from my reader. If what he writes is truely gr8, i will get it from some place else too. Initially I wanted to make a post about this, but then decided its not worth the trouble. go to the cows site….check the source…you will get this :
The hacker sets up a paypal to pay the cow…..go fool someone else…bye.
