Doof: An Online Playground

When you hear the word “Doof” it certainly doesn’t conjure up images of a flashy and smooth online site. But doof.com is just that: flashy, smooth and extremely addictive.

logodoof.pngDoof is a service offering a social gaming experience, with some interesting games to boot. It’s a cross between MySpace, MyBlogLog and Yahoo Games, but hyped up on a lot of Code Red Mountain Dew. The attraction to Doof begins with the games. With over 30 to choose from, ranging from sports to, my personal favorite, Gem Swap {very closely related to the famous Bejeweled}, you certainly aren’t at a loss for something to do on Doof.

As you play games, you earn credits, which may be used in tournaments with other players, or to purchase “gifts” for your friends. The gifts are basically avatars of items such as frogs, jewelry, crowns and various other items for showing your “like” in a humorous manner. Aside from winning credits, they can also be purchased via PayPal or credit card.

Once you begin meeting new people Doof.com offers Instant Message and email features, letting you know when your favorite game partners are available and giving you the ability to contact them. Just click on the person’s username and you can chat while playing games.

Doof has so much to offer it’s very difficult to place everything in one post. Cosmetic features like changing the colors of the panels, taking snapshots of how your panels are set in order to show off your creativity, will probably keep some people more occupied than the games themselves - it’s definitely an online playground.

The sign-up process is a snap, (almost literally), and you’ll find yourself amazed at the jazzed layout style. One word of caution: Don’t play at work, or you will never get anything accomplished. Oh, and their FAQ’s don’t work. So I’d wait till I hand them over any money.
