I think a lot of people are concerned about PageRank because it determines how much profit that they will make with their blogs. If you are really blogging for the love of it, it won't matter if you make $1 or $10,000! Good point! I never believed PR mattered anyway...one of my blogs has a PR of 3 and the other is 0...go figure, they both use wordpress and both talk about money, both link to similar sites and use the same affiliate programs.
