Barracuda Networks And Open Invention Network - Open Source On The Rise

If you’re not a fan of open source software {Firefox, Linux, WordPress} then you probably haven’t heard of Open Invention Network. OIN is basically an intellectual property company which acquires patents around the world to further the Linux System and spur innovation in the global software arena. Barracuda networks has now signed a license agreement with OIN, which will indirectly help to support open source intellectual property protection.

Patents that are owned by the OIN are available royalty free to any company which in turns helps to fuel further growth in open source development. Barracuda Networks will now combine their own technology with their open source technology to provide affordable, easy to use and powerful network security appliances.

For instance, Barracuda will be using it in their Spam Filter products. Did you know that they receive an average of 1 billion spam and virus submissions daily for their worldwide customers! That’s an awful lot of spam.
