Case Study: Designing The “Popup” For My Web Product

I’ve finally finished the design for the “popup” area of my web product, which will hopefully take the internet by storm. Trust me, it’s such a cool little nifty piece of code that will allow people to make more money for themselves. I can’t wait to launch it! But first I have to design it.

So, after a very yuck looking version 0.1 I had a sudden spark of creativity and knocked out the final version for the popup. My developer thinks its nice too, so does my wife. I use her as a radar for yuckiness in design, so if she likes it chances are that 80% of the internet population will like it.

Just What You Need

Since this product is aimed at giving the user maximum benefit, in terms of making money, taking out the clutter was of utmost importance. Sometimes you feel like adding so much more than you actually think you need, that the more you add the more horrible it turns out to be.

When I began doing the version of the “popup” that we will be launching with I thought to myself how would I want to use it? The answer was a no-brainer. Just show me what I need to see. I don’t want to see anything else that will distract me from what I want this product to accomplish for me as a user on any end.

Here’s a little sneak peak at one of the elements in the design, can’t give away everything yet… ;-)

Right now I’m coding it up and sending it off to the developer, so he can do his AJAX magic with it. I think if all goes well, by the time we hit the first week of December I should be ready to take on a few beta testers. I wanted to launch it this month itself but so much stuff has been happening, it’s just nuts.

Anyway, till the next “web product” update I’ll leave you with one more clue. If you run a WordPress blog, making money is going to get a whole lot easier.
