well, overall we don’t think of ourselves at that obscure (although perhaps some team members would disagree…) and our CTO is hooked on Dr. Pepper not Coke…
The full-time members have already graduated and I for example did studiVZ.net, which is the German facebook and managed to become Germany’s most-viewed internet site within one year with 130 employees and more than 3 million members. So yes, we are still young, but we managed to gain a lot of experience and we are very aware that shoeboxed stores very personal information and that we are responsible for its security.
But we are a site that does not only intend to store your receipts, but also manages spam. We like to think of our shoeboxed-email as your “public” email-adress.
See, one of the easiest ways of getting people’s information is through online purchases sent to their personal e-mail. Personal information mixed with financial information is a bad idea. Once someone finds out your personal email address and password, they have access not only to the last four digits of your SS and your full name, but also the stores you currently have an account with. In addition, they could see those e-mails you sent to your family with the credit card information so they could purchase books, or a plane ticket to get home from college. Once that data is stolen, the problems don’t go away. With your shoeboxed-email adress you can also fight spam, by having an adress you can use for all the commercial or download sites, where you have to enter an email-ad (and one-click unsubscribe from spam or newsletters).
Everyday i waste time having to read/delete spam from my email account. Email, once a fast way of messaging and organizing my social life and communication, has become a productivity killer for me. Shoeboxed.com is a service for people who don’t have money and time to burn.
