August Recap - Hey, It’s the Weekend. I need a break!

The beginning of the month couldn’t have come on a better day - a Saturday. Even though I work from home and make a living online I tend to still get loose over the weekend, probably because everyone else is in the same state.

So here’s what happened on my blog in the month of August.

Make Money Online Month

I designated August as make money online month and wrote a bunch of articles focused around a lot of things which I summarized in this making money post.

RSS readers

My RSS readers went up by around 50, it dropped to 390 one day, and ended up at 476 for the month. A little short of my target for 500, but I’m happy with the progress. Better to have an extra 50 - 100 loyal readers added a month, than have 1000 one day and 400 the next.

Personal web startup launch

I also signaled the development of my web startup. I hope it to be done asap. I’m documenting the steps I go through, so sign up for my RSS feed to stay up to date. It’s going to be HUGE! Trust me.

Posts and comments

I made 60 posts this month which received 168 comments which is like an average of 2.8 comments per post. Nothing much else to say about that.

Revenue

I don’t share revenue details anymore, but August was slightly slow. I guess because of the summer.

Traffic

Traffic beat last months incredible rise of 45%. It grew by 20% over last months total. To some my traffic stats are probably peanuts, well to me they are nice. Just to share a little bit of data for potential advertisers - I had 50,031 pageviews generated for the month of August.

That’s for August, 2007.

September is going to be heck crazy and I’m loving the work that is in the pipelines right now. A lot of big things like my startup development, my freelance business launch, a few blog design jobs for other clients taking shape, a special project on the blog that will last the entire month and a personal blog redesign. Details coming soon…

  1. Looking forward to see what you have in store Ali! And 60 posts, wow, you do keep yourself busy ;)

  2. Only to keep you, and others, busy on my blog :) .

  3. Hi Ali,

I have just recently begun to take a liking to your blog. Your posts seems to get interesting and relevant unlike the other blogs that I have stopped monitoring.

I have a question though, I am mostly read your posts via Google Reader. How do you plan to monetise your RSS feeds?

  4. Hi Sami,
Thanks for subscribing to my RSS. Presently I only monetize it through Feedburner’s FAN network. I’m looking at other options, but I want to cross a certain RSS reader count before I do so.

  5. I don’t see how you are able to monetise Feedburner. I mean, I don’t see any adverts. I know I am asking too many Qs, tell me when to stop.

  6. Hey,
I can’t wait to see your new re-design. I just got my personal blog up, and it took me about a week to decide upon a theme. (which I ended customizing myself)

Are you going to re-design it yourself? Or are you going to hire a company?

  7. Sami,

Feedburner shows ads but most of them are geo targeted. I think most of the time, towards U.S population. Feedburner Ads also shows up on my site sometime.

I might just do an article on various ways to monetize feeds. So watch out for that.

  8. oh thanks for the info. It certainly cleared up my confusion.
