For a lot of people who don’t have image editing software or the technical knowhow for getting a thumbnail of a website, Thumbshots.org provides Free Thumbshot thumbnails for your site. This could be useful to you if you run your own directory, send out newsletters, want to provide more information about the way a site looks on your personal site or blog and more.
To be able to use thumbshots all you you need to do is sign up, and you will get a piece of code to insert on your site for the thumbshots to be shown. They state that over 90% of internet users would like to see thumbnails before visiting a web page, I like to see them sometimes but not all the time. That’s mainly because I’ve probably visited tens of thousands of websites over the years on the internet.
They even have an extension for Firefox users where Thumbshots will be shown on your Google or Yahoo search. More information here on the Thumbshots Firefox extension. Some sites that presently use them among others are the BBC, blogcatalog.com and AOL.ca.

Thanks for the tip. I have checked their solution and it is not comprehensive. I have found the service of Girafa.com to be a lot better. Not only that they have a free service for up to 2000 thumbnails they provide a cheaper service for more than 2000 thumbnails and they will provide you with thumbnails from all over the WWW, and only from DMOZ as with Thumbshots.
