I've been noticing lately that some of the top Web 2.0 blogs namely TechCrunch, Mashable and ReadWriteWeb have some really over the top, potentially seizure causing advertisements. The worst part is the Ads are the ultra super lame type that say in all CAPS -
Here are links to the Ads I saw on Mashable and Techcrunch. Warning! - If you get easily affected by bright repeatedly flashing banners please do not view the ads.
Here are two screenshots of the blitzkrieg flash ad that RWW was showing -

I do not know which Ad network is publishing these Ads, but I have reason to believe it is Federated Media.
By the way clicking on the Ads takes you to a FreeLotto page where you can claim free money. That would be sweet if only it were actually true. I don't know if the bloggers get to approve the advertisements that run on their blogs or not, but having the high profile that they have I would expect them to at least view their blog and say - damn that's ugly! Not to mention the dubious claims of free money the ads promote. Looks like Web 2.0 just went Geocities on you!
I mean seriously!
I have suffered from mild epileptic attacks when I was 13, I am 28 now, and I can tell you with all honesty that watching those ads got me dizzy.

lol, i hate those kind of ads..they’re just so dang cheesy.
several years have passed now since the internet began (i mean for the regular home users), by now people should have known all these ads are nothing but garbage.
My site is probably displaying these through Adbrite… they pay better than AdSense!
yeahh, wtf ads. i hate it so much. I dont know, but sometimes when i visit some popular website/blog, always meet with that damn ads.
I’m wondering if it would be possible to change the display of those ads through a little CSS magic or maybe a greasemonkey script. Otherwise, I smell a potential lawsuit against those annoy ads. Yes? Cha-Ching, baby!!
Those are some seriously ugly and annoying ads. I’m with you and cannot believe that such high profile sites wouldn’t be screening these out of the ad rotation. When I see an ad like that it makes me automatically run… run far away from that site.
Thos ads are NOT BEING served by those popular sites. You, guys, have a virusy (trojan/spyware) that has infected your computer. It automatically detects the sites showing ads and replaces the original ads with those terribly bright stupid ads. I have the same issue; still trying to get it fixed, though!
Ouch!
