…And Then There Was Thoof!

Ever wonder with some of the Web 2.0 startup names out there how do these people come up with such names? I recently profiled one such startup called Thoof which offers personalized news according to what you’re looking for.

So here’s my take on how Thoof got named

One fine day the founders of a secretive web startup were looking for a good name for their wonderful news service, a service where news, websites, videos and more gets personalized to your tastes. But no matter how hard they tried they just couldn’t get the right name.

That’s when they got on a plane and flew to the Mayan ruins, where they were studying the ruins and the magnificent views.

Suddenly they heard a rustle in the bushes and just brushed it off as just the local wildlife. But before they could move away any further they heard some sounds - thoof! thoof! thoof! Ian, Andrew and Alan {founders of thoof} were suddenly struck by what looked like poisoned darts. They didn’t know what just happened, as they felt a funny prick. This is when Tammie yells at them to run, while she heroically battles the rest of the Mayans whilst escaping, with almost spider like agility, more of the darts that were aimed at her. To this day Jonathan and Scott, senior architect/co-founder at Thoof, wonder how she did those death defying moves in one of their darkest hours. They helped fight the Mayans too…a little.

Meanwhile Ian, Andrew and Alan stop running and wonder why they are not swelling up from the poison, only to find out that Tammie and the others were still behind fighting off the Mayans. This is when a rustle in the bushes moves closer, scared out of their wits they prepare for the worst and but on a brave face - only to be met by none other than Mel Gibson!

Apparently he wanted to scare the living daylights out of these guys so he had the cast of Apocalypto play a little prank on them. Mel is known for his pranks, this one goes in his hall of fame. He was impressed my Tammie’s moves though and offered her the lead in his next production. She flatly refused. {Jerk!}

All that the members of the team remember from their trip to the Amazon was the sound of phony darts pricking them on their neck - Thoof!
