This post is part of “August - Make Money Online Month”.
If you’re into blogging that means you probably write an average of 5 - 7 posts a week with various word counts and on different topics. If you’ve been doing this for more than 6 months you then have a pretty good resume to apply as a part-time or a full-time freelance writer.
Get Paid To Write
With every online company under the sun trying to get their webpage on search engine first pages they need content to get them there. Along with the fact that a lot of these online businesses are also setting up their own blogs and talking about the products on their site as well their respective industries. This is where you come in.
A lot of these online businesses are looking to hire freelance writers, and some of them will pay good money for you to write. You could be an all rounder and write about anything around specific keywords or you could be really specialized in your field and write genuine content day in and day out. Usually when you get specialized the kind of people that you might end up writing for will also pay better.
A lot of job boards like getafreelancer.com, elance.com and others have numerous jobs where freelance writing is in demand. You will also find your fair share of cheaters and liars, so be careful.
Word of advice: Bid on jobs that fit your present income level. You will find many that are targeted solely towards low wage countries and offer peanuts - so don’t waste your time there.
My Story
I used to do freelance writing before I got into blogging and I used to make around $700 a month. Actually that was for two jobs which amounted to 16 hours a day - long story short I used to finish off a 16 hour day in no more than 3 - 4 hours flat.
My all time record for one of the jobs scheduled 8 hour day was 45 minutes, I finished the other 8 hours {for the other job} in another 3. My employer never knew that of course. The rest of the time I managed my affiliate sites and managed two other brick and mortar businesses.
Yes, once you get good at freelance writing you can make some good money in a very short time. It’s finding a good and stable source of income in this field which is the catch. But if you already have a blog, you can do something like this on the side and make some quick cash. Don’t expect to replicate my above example though, the stuff I wrote about was the stuff I got my college degree in. So you could say I was really specialized. But that’s not saying you cannot match my example.
I would like to point you to this blog called Chris Blogging, who talks more in depth about Freelance Writing.
Have you ever done any freelance writing? How has your experience been?

I would love to start freelancing but I feel I should focus on my own blog and make it better before I start writing for someone else.

Money motivates, and that’s a good hustle. Definitely something I will be getting into over the next year.

Freelancing for writing is a tough gig unless you already know what niche areas bring in the big bucks. A lot of people write for the wrong topics and always wonder why they don’t get the proper traffic or money on clicks.

I notice your top commentators plugin hi-jacks links. It does not point back to the URL supplied - instead points to http://www.caribtechz.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the advice! I’ve been trying to find other ways of utilizing my writing and syntax editing skills, and freelancing just might help me find that opportunity. I’ll check out the other site you suggested and read more about it. Keep up the good work; or is it more a labor of love?

I have been blogging for some time and looking out for other ways of using my skill of writing. This post gives a new direction on how things can be done.
Thanks for that. Will keep you posted about any success in this direction.
