A Spammer Never Sleeps

On average I delete close to 300+ spam comments a day on this blog, which are caught by akismet of course. This has significantly increased over time. But it’s not only on my blog that I have to deal with spammers, they also get into my email. It’s a good thing email spam filters were created otherwise I could just kiss my day’s productivity goodbye.

Image Spam to PDF Spam

One thing that would really get to me is the image spam that started surfacing. Like that wasn’t enough a new method that spammers have come up with now is PDF spam. They are now beginning to use PDF’s more and more to spread their nonsense across email inboxes by embedding images into a PDF, to try and sidestep filters that may already be in place to combat image spam.

BorderWare Technologies is a vendor of messaging security, privacy and compliance solutions. As per their recent press release they have seen an increase in PDF spam. Their technology, which is used in their BorderWare Security Network, scans emails for spam also learns about techniques that spammers are constantly using to find a way to get into your email. They have now detected an increase in PDF spam.

Some would say, just delete them and get it over with. Well, how many emails can you delete? I once had my email inbox flooded with 718 spam emails! That’s a fact! Though most were only plain text, some of them were image based. But I can only imagine if someone hit me with a campaign to flood my inbox with that many messages in PDF format – storage could become an issue and real emails would probably not get delivered to me.

BorderWare also provides software that can help you combat these situations. Their anti-spam anti-phishing software called Intercept Engine™ provides you control over your email while handling and disposing of spam. Currently it is used by 2000 enterprises.

I’ll probably have a dozen or so spam emails in my inbox already since I began writing this post. A spammer never sleeps.

  1. I hate spam it is 10 times worse then junk mail in the real world!

  2. The PDF spamming seriously annoys me because clients sometimes do tend to send invoices and such. When I open them up, it is usually promoting some crappy penny stocks.

  3. Between the email spam, junk mail, and blog spam…I’m sick of it. They need to stop giving people the opportunity to do it. Let’s not even talk about telemarketers!

  4. I get that dang PDF spam and it gets on my nerves!! They send these fake invoices and other things, I just delete the e-mail if I don’t recognize the sender.

Don’t have much problem with the telemarketers.

  5. Maybe spammers are the new innovators of the Internet. Whereas the adult industry was once the main innovator, it seems that spammers have now taken over this role!
