Tech Blog’s Formula For Success - Rehash Content To Death

Posted by Hyder on July 11th, 2007

From many of the most popular “tech” blogs I read it’s safe to say around 70% of the content is just borrowed, linked to, sourced from or attributed to other blogs. Sure they have their tipsters for the big news and are themselves usually local to the area, but if you want to set up a tech blog and effortlessly update it. Times couldn’t be easier.

All you need to do is subscribe to around 50 - 100 tech blogs RSS feeds, subscribe to the tech channel in popular video sites, bookmark the press release section of the top tech companies and post around 5 - 10 posts a day. Slap a few blocks of Ads on, and viola! Instant Tech Rehash!

While almost all of the tech blogs do the minimum required by linking to the source I would really appreciate a direct link to a product if the original poster themselves stated it. Like for instance this chair, the Netsurfer, click on products > netsurfer. {which looks cool by the way}

I literally had to jump through 3 blogs {link to the original source of the article} to get a link to the darn homepage of it! I mean how freakin’ hard can it be to just link to the damn product, while linking to your source as well.

If the best a tech blogger can do is re-write someone’s else stuff and publish 70% of their content like that, it makes me never want to visit your blog. Most of the top tech blogs have risen this way and many more are set up everyday with that same purpose in mind. To rehash.

One more thing…what really ticked me off even more is when some bloggers put an image of a video on their home page with the big play button. Only to be taken to the post page after clicking on the play button. This is to drive up their CPM revenues from advertisers, so their rehashed blog can get paid.

Blogging for money?! Never heard of such a thing!
