Sk*rt - The Battle of The Sexes

Posted by Hyder on June 17th, 2007

Everybody knows that digg is a more or less a male dominated site. That may be in part due to the categories which are not….well too feminine, too play it safe. Sure you do find techie girls/women and it always fun when one of them comments on a digg post, gets the geeks all excited.

So in walks something in a skirt, actually let’s drop a vowel and put in a flower kind of icon yes looks all pretty now, thank God it’s not in pink!

Sk*rt is the place where women go to vote, of course guys are welcome {just be careful}, powered by the open source cms pligg which has the RSVC functionality like digg the site is the place to find and/or link to anything and everything on the web that you’d like to share with other women.

4 lovely ladies are behind this site and even though they were introduced to the digg crowd they didn’t make it to the front page, I guess the geeks couldn’t handle the competition.

The categories include Around the House, Fashion, Mind Body & Spirit, Parenting and more. It probably will work for the women crown and even some men, like me, might find this a refreshing change from all the Apple iPhone, Google, Ubuntu and YouTube stories, oops sorry I forgot the Firefox 3 stories, that clog up the front page of digg nowadays. Of course, I’m a passionate digger but sometimes it does get a bit tedious. Srsly, there’s only so much one can read about the iPhone.

So check it out, it launched last week most of you all probably heard about it already but it’s still worth a mention.

Thank you so much for your terrific plug of sk*rt! We’re really thrilled with all the positive response and feedback we have received in only our first month of existence, and we owe a debt of gratitude to far-reaching trend/tech seers like you for spreading the word!

I want to share one small correction with you — largely because it played a huge role in our 1st week of existence: we did make it to the front page of digg — the day after our launch! Here’s a link to that digg post. and we’re “proud” to report that our sweet little shared server came crashing down as a result! The digg post you linked to was a clever offshoot of the original digg post.

BTW and fwiw, neither the digg post you reference, nor the digg post I mention were actually submitted by any of the sk*rt founders.

Two weeks later, we have now upgraded to a new, big-girl dedicated server and are happily back on our growth curve.

So thanks again for your great review and for your confidence in traipsing around with all the sk*rts. I hope we continue to be a site that “Everybody Goes To.”
