Active@ File Recovery software provides you with the ability to recover lost data as a result of having been accidentally deleted, formatted or otherwise lost. They purchased a sponsored review* for me talk about their software.
For examples sake, I remember quite a few times I’ve worked on something and ended up not naming the document appropriately, a few days or weeks go by I do a system clean up and delete the said file. I then find a situation where I want to use that file, but I’ve already deleted it. It’s times like these that you could use software like Active@ File Recovery Software.
The software comes in a various versions - Standard, Professional, Enterprise and an Internet Service version. The Demo version let’s you retrieve documents that are no larger than 65KB, hardly a motivation to try it out. So if you’re serious about such software just get yourself a Standard license or the Professional one. Prices are $29.95 and $44.95 respectively.
They have a lot of documentation to walk you through all of the technicalities of using their software and I suggest you read through it. The UI of the application itself is pretty simple and I’ve noticed quite a similarity in the user interfaces of these type of applications and other back up solutions. I guess if you’ve used one before you will be very comfortable using this one too.

You start off using the software by doing a QuickScan of your drives, a SuperScan is suggested though. Your files and folders are designated a color scheme based on their status. I installed the Demo and did the QuickScan of my drive and asked the application to only identify deleted files after selecting one text document I tried to retrieve it and it kept giving me a warning message suggesting against recovering to my local drive, a little digging around their documentation and I found this -
As a precaution, Active@ File Recovery warns you if you try to recover files back into the same drive. A newly created file might overwrite (in whole or in some part) the deleted file during the recovery process, or the contents of other deleted files may be overwritten. Always undelete files to another logical removable, floppy or network drive.
So in way that is a good thing, But what do you do if you don’t have any of the other options stated above? Surely I do not want to destroy any other data due to a file recovery.
Active@ lets you perform
- File Recovery
- Partition Recovery {Active@ File Recovery Professional}
- photos Recovery
- Unbootable System Recovery {Active@ File Recovery Enterprise}
For the Unbootable System Recovery, I would like to note, contains a CD/DVD ISO image that you can burn to get a bootable CD or DVD with a lightweight version of Windows Vista running in RAM.
