I also think keeping a professional blog about topics you're passionate about (lets say technology) helps define you as an expert in that field. When a potential employer Googles your name, and they will, if they come across your blog which in which you have well spoken thoughts, comments and ideas, it helps promote you without you have to do any extra work. Blogs are great marketing tools, a lot of fun, and really a fantastic way for the general consumer to break into a medium that used to be tightly controlled. What's not to love?
