Top Commenters Wordpress Plugin - Update
I’ve reset the Top Commenters Plugin to reset itself every week from the monthly reset that it was previously. I felt like people made a comment or so and then left and never came back. So this will encourage you to spam comment more often on my blog than normal. Plus since the blog has a half full green line on Google’s toolbar {read PR 5} I would think it will hold benefit to the commenter of providing one strong link back to your site.
So if you want to be at the top of the list, comment away! I regularly comment on other blogs that have this plugin installed and I do get some good traffic from it. Blogging is tough, I tell ya!
You are welcome to include a description of your blog or website like “Shopping Blog” or “Internet Directory” etc…just don’t get too spammy with it, otherwise I’ll have to block your URL and I really don’t want to do that. Any adult, gambling and alcohol related sites will be promptly blocked from showing up in the list. Only the top 10 commenters are displayed.
If you like, you can download the plugin here for your blog as well.

Alright I’ll be commenting more often from now on.
The spammy thing can be a bit of an issue. I’ve had people leave silly comments on my blog ever since I installed DoFollow. Some may even have been legitimate, but if it’s out of context with what the post is about, I really hate it!
I currently have mine set to reset every month-but setting it to weekly MAY encourage comments from different readers. It seems as if the same people are commenting and even though I welcome this- I’d like to see a few new names pop up. I haven’t had any issues though with people adding silly comments. If it’s spam I just delete and move on.
I use top commentator as well and mine is set to monthly. Perhaps I should experiment and change it to weekly. I do find that the people that make the top 10 list do come back regularly. I don’t do too bad comment wise.
Maybe I’ll change it to weekly and list 15 top commentators instead of 10 and see what happens.
I’ve had a form of do follow on my blog pretty much since I started it (comment plugger) and I’ve never found that people have abused it. For the most part I get thoughtful comments. Oh sometimes when I’m doing photo hunters or wordless Wednesday people will just write great photo or something but that’s being actively discouraged by the people that run those memes so that’s happening less and less.
I was using another plugin (Freepress Top Commenters) but it looks like i will have to switch, since it’s nowhere close in terms of features.
Regarding spam, i don’t believe it’s a big issue unless you have a really high number of comments; you can just delete/tag daily spam comments in a few seconds. Of course, sometimes people don’t have the time they would like to comment and still like to say something, so that may be a bit of a gray area but generally i think a bit of good sense is enough to handle those comments.
The top commenters plugin seems to be working, it has reset itself after 1 week. Quick leave a comment on another post of mine and grab the first spot
