WordPress 2.2 Coming Soon…

A new version of wordpress is about to be released soon, version 2.2. Some of the details are as below.

Tagging
Permalink redirection
Improved comment editing
Atom 1.0 support for feeds.
Multiple format comment feeds, including Atom.
Switched to jQuery for core JS, which is lighter and faster.
Atom API support.
Additional XML-RPC APIs for pages and such.
phpmailer was integrated for performance and maintainability.
On the table for future releases…
New permalink redirection stuff
An additional bundled theme?
Widgets?

I’m looking forward to it, I guess it’s about time I upgraded this blogs version. I didn’t upgrade with 2.1 as I thought something fishy might come up and it did with the whole feedburner issue and then that very unsafe warning, and now we’re up to 2.1.3. The other blog I run is running 2.1.2 and is quite stable and fast. This one here tends to lag a little bit, so I’ll be looking forward to the 2.2 to upgrade…after any reports or none surface of stability.

Hi. I am commenting on each Postie blog that is listed on the Linky List. I have a sidebar widget that many people have decided to put on their blogs. In return I link to your blog under my Photo-A-Day Hosts Blog Roll.

What is the widget. Well, it is a daily photo from my Photo-A-Day project. I have been taking and posting photos to my blog for 2+ years straight. I just started year 3. I’d like to get more people viewing the images and commenting on them so if I can get many Photo-A-Day hosts then I hope I can get people viewing my photos and leaving comments.

l upgraded my wordpreess to 2.1 immediaely , they were saying it was an important update! why you didnt ? Never seen any problem? if not why they say important update?
These features are very good, l am willing to install new wp to www.warezword.net , Thats good, thanks for informing us.

ohh .. will be fun to see how they’ve integrated tagging (or whether we’ll all still stick to UTW)

I hope they’ve improved some of the new category management stuff. Integrating link categories and post categories has made things a bit messy

Tagging:

Unfortunately, the new WP tagging system breaks the old reliable UTW and much hacking to UTW is needed to use it once again. I use UTW for the specific purpose of incorporating related posts into my single post pages. Rather than rather than using a context sensitive type related posts plugin that tries to pick up common words among posts, UTW gives me complete control of what tags I use for each post thereby controlling the related posts feature. No more apparently. And by what I’ve read, WP tagging does not allow you to pick from a list of previously used tags like UTW does so where’s the correlation? Even if UTW can be hacked successfully to run with 2.2, running two tagging systems on one install could run into trouble.

Including the tagging function for Wordpress 2.2 is good for Wordpress and the new blogger, not so good for the more experienced bloggers who have been relying on UTW for so long.

Just my opinion.

A note from Christine D. April 16th, 2007 at 4:07 am : There will be a wordpress 2.2 compatible version of Ultimate Tag Warrior released just as soon as I can manage it. It’s going to use the tags stored by wordpress, but will do the UTW’y stuff over top.
