Dell has announced that they will start selling PC’s with Linux pre-installed. If you remember there was a special website set up called Idea Storm where they asked the community about how the company can please their customers better. The community came out with full force on that one saying they wanted to have the option to buy Dell computers with Linux as an operating system.
There have been no details released as to which type of distro will be available and on which computers it will run on. Linux being free will bring the cost of owning a new computer significantly cheaper for a lot of people who just didn’t know about the OS before or didn’t know how to go about installing it on their system.
The company said it will provide an update in the coming weeks that includes detailed information on which systems it will offer, testing and certification efforts, and the Linux distribution or distributions that will be available.
Most of the worlds hosting servers run on Linux, including the server for this blog.
