With Millions of blogs and sites I would like to think that at least a few million of those don't have Google Adsense on them. Which means Google is making a lot of money on our backs. The publisher's make money too but nobody really knows how much they get paid as the percentage has never been disclosed.
So with all these publishers you think somebody would have made a club or a web union kind of thing by now to pressure Google to give publishers more freedom with their program. After all, you can imagine the impact it would have if hundreds of thousands of publishers would pledge to remove their Google Adsense code for one single day from their sites or blogs.
What do I mean by more freedom with their program?
Well for starters I would like to be able to format the font type, font size and even the font decoration { underline on rollover for example } why do only the premium publishers get to have that special treatment. I think it should be freely available to everyone.
Next, I would like to choose how many ads I want placed in my 336 X 280, 300 X 250, 250 X 250, 728 X 90, 120 X 600 and the 160 X 600 ad blocks. If I want to show just two, three or four I feel I should be able to choose that.
Lastly it would be nice to finally allow Adwords customers themselves to place small images, like you see mostly all over the internet, along with their Adwords campaign. A lot of publishers place images besides their Adsense code, so why not just allow the Adwords client to put them in if they want. This is of course separate from the Image Ads that they have right now.
Concerning what I was saying above about the removing of code for one day as a protest, this site called Shut Down Day is an experiment to see if people can survive without their computer for one day. So far at time of writing 46342 people have said they can.
Now imagine that times at least 10. If that many people would remove their Google Adsense code for one single day the impact on Google's stock price, earnings and media buzz would be quite significant to pressure them to give in and give us publishers what we want, more freedom with the formatting of the ads and the way we want to display them. Plus tell us how much percentage we make per click.
So whaddya say, Who's up to it? The idea's out in the open.
