5 Ways to Market your Blog off the Internet

Posted by Hyder on February 26th, 2007

Everybody wants a blog/website nowadays and everybody wants to make a quick buck or two. Some are successful some are not, why is that?

It is really quite simple you need to invite people to your blog/site. There are many ways to do this. Below are 5 ways that I think you should consider for marketing your blog/site off the Internet.

  1. Word of Mouth - Forget search engines, ppc, links, commenting etc…Actually tell people about your blog. Just think of your friends, colleagues, neighbors, family members, your local grocery person let them know by dropping your blog/website URL in a conversation. Of course this doesn’t mean you just go up front to anybody and say hey check myblahblahblah.com it’s reeeeally cool. That won’t work. Be informal and be respective don’t ask them the very next day if they came by the blog and if they clicked on an Ad.
  2. Business Cards - You can print free business cards for yourself online in a limited quantity. Spend a few more dollars and get a few hundred more and hand them out to people you end up chatting with on the train, the bus, inline at the grocery store etc…You can also ask business establishments that you visit regularly like your hair salon, that family owned restaurant in your neighborhood, your dentist’s office if you can leave your business cards behind - hey its worth a shot! Don’t forget to refill them when they are gone. Tip: Make them attractive, not gawdy.
  3. Newspaper Ads - Yes! Newspaper Classified Ads most local dailies offer a free section. Put an Ad in the paper saying you are selling something and to find out visit your blog/site at www.myblog.com. You can do it across the nation if you like as most dailies take Ads over the internet as well. No matter how much the internet pervades our lives, people still like to pick up their morning paper with their coffee..or tea in my case. If you start getting a lot of traffic to your blog set up a classifieds section and offer space out for a fee.
  4. Your Car - You can place a bumper sticker on your car and have it show your blog URL wherever you go. Check the video out below after No.5.
  5. Stationary - You send out greeting cards for many many occasions from birthdays to anniversaries to religious events. Putting your site URL on self designed greeting cards and shipping them out whenever the opportunity comes is an open invitation for the receiver to see, remember and most likely visit your blog. Because when you receive a card you examine every detail of it as it more personal than an eGreeting. You can also personalize pens, writing pads and anything else that you can print your URL on. Send them out as gifts too if you like.

Word of advice - When you do design your own greeting cards invest some time and money in them. Make various types of themes from funny, romantic, special to personal. Remember if the greeting is great most likely they will show it to at least 5 - 10 or more people and mention your blog or website URL as well. From there it could just get viral, who knows anything is possible. Tip: Don’t let your site URL overcome the message of the card it might backfire.

Bonus - If you can get yourself listed in the yellow pages locally or nationally give it a try.

Those are great tips and so many people tend to forget how important it is to advertise also offline and don’t even put their web address on printed materials, that’s foolish! Thanks Ali, hope you’re well!?

I would love to have a car to do that with.
