Digg Unbans Sites - Does this mean their system has flaws?
With the recent news that digg has unbanned a bunch of blogs from their system. The only question I can ask myself is - Does this mean their “Bury” function has flaws?
Which reminds me of this story I did concerning blocking sites which I think is a MUCH better option than the current bury system and should be replaced with that altogether. Basically what the idea was that if you don’t want to see a particular site you just block it from your view and you can view it any point of time. It did receive some takers on digg when I submitted it, let’s see if it works this time around.
So does this mean that now their algorithm has been updated to counter this type of movement where a bunch of diggers gang up and mark a website or blog as spam but also that the reporting of it by users doesn’t necessarily mean that the content is after all…spam!
John’s website was a classic example and he himself was bemused when he found out that he was banned a few months ago but also that he, along with the others, were not offered any explanations as to why they were banned, when he clearly never submitted any of his stories.
The only thing now to watch out for is if the sites that have been unbanned somehow get banned again by the same group that banned them in the first place, as no doubt they are still users of digg. But will marking a website as spam again get the same result it got them in the first place?
Oh and the other thing. Kevin, Digg NEEDS a forum! If that means buying more servers then damn it BUY them!
