Developing strategies to maximise search engine exposure

Apart from this blog I also have another website as well that deals with clothing, it also has a blog. I bought the domains at the same time but paid more attention to that site. The results show it as well. I get practically hundreds of more visits there on a daily basis than this one does.

All in all it took me around 2 - 3 months to optimize that site by feverishly watching my stats and seeing what keywords came to my domain and how visitors were going about the site jumping from page to page. In the beginning the site was very bare bones and the blog was basically not started till 4 months down the line.

The ironic thing was that I made more money in the first two months of going live than I ever did in the following 4 months combined.

I did some re-design of the site when I saw that sales were racking up, I did something unconsciously which was to take change the way the affiliate site opened from target=”_self” to target=”_blank”. Which meant that instead of opening in the same window it would open in a new window. I still don’t know if this was the main cause of the downfall of the sales. I did not notice it till another month or so down and by the time I realized that something else happened, the infamous Google Dance.

Yikes! Traffic literally dropped overnight. At that time it was climbing to around an average of 80 - 100 a day from pure search engine traffic not one dollar of advertising was spent, well ok maybe a few but negligible, it went down to like 30!

Another month went by, even with small traffic levels the site was still getting sales and making some cash with Google adsense. I decided it was time for a different strategy and some serious SEO stuff. I read and read and read and figured out the best way to optimize keywords, use ones that were not that heavily referenced by others and build that damn blog. All the information you could ever want is right here on the web, you just need to find it.

It worked! Traffic started climbing, Google loved me again and for the past 6 months now traffic has been increasing at a steady rate of 15 - 20% per month. Plus Google adsense and text link ads has been making me quite some money with a similar increase in income related to the traffic levels.

I’m still developing strategies to develop the site further and this blog at the same time. One thing I’ve learned is if you have built a new site and it just shoots up in the SERP’s you’d better be prepared to keep the momentum up just so that your ranking doesn’t drop practically overnight. Be prepared for anything.

I’ll be writing more later on about how I optimized my Google adsense to bring in more income

And this other thing that happened today, somebody called and left me this “hp camera” puzzle piece.
