Rendez.Voo - Digg type Word of Mouth Social Community

Rendez.Voo is a social site where you can spread the word about things you love and the community votes on it.

No other way to try this stuff out then to register and give it a whirl. Let’s Voo on in then.

While registering for an account I seriously see no need for all the extra fields for my birthday, my zip code and my name. This is the year 2007 people nobody has names on the internet any more just nicknames. Also the captcha I know is a security measure but it’s gets to you some time.

Account created now after email verification (more security measures) and going to profile page. Now here you might be confused at first as to how the heck you edit your info apparently you just hover for example over the City name and click, type in your info and hit enter on your keyboard - keyword here is “hit enter” otherwise your info will not be saved.

So the profile area was fun to play with it took me like 2 - 3 minutes or so to get everything looking like I wanted it.

Right on to the site. What is it for?

Rendezvoo is the user community where you can spread the word about the things you love — your portfolio, your music, your websites, your best blog posts, and everything else you want to share. Post for free, and for additional exposure, pay for premium placement with Promote Now! Rendezvoo is supposedly aiming to be the best place on the web to start the word-of-mouth process. Uh - oh paid review sites watch out.

You can add posts, vote on other posts, comment and share with friends in your network and something new that I’ve seen which is called as connect posts.

What that does is let you connect similar posts to it. So say if you added a post about computers you can find other posts about computers and connect them together. In this way the story gets connected to your post and vice versa. Which is cool! I like :)

You can add tags, upload media the posts also have support for < embed > and < object > html code meaning which I presume you can add videos from sites like youtube and livevideo.

Their Promote Now option lets you promote your post to a wider audience by paying a daily slot fee your post gets promoted on the front page under a dedicated Snapshots panel which is sorted by promoted posts first. The cost calculator lets you see how much it would cost to show your post and at what number of hierarchy it will be placed.

So is this another digg style site? Well the system is set up in a way where people vote on posts and the higher voted a post is the more views and more clicks it gets.

Digg is set up similarly but the voters don’t get paid and the stories get to the front page solely based on content. But here the sites are offered a chance to promote their stories for a fee. Can rendez.voo have figured out a way to finally offer sites the chance to get their content visible to thousands of viewers.

Only time will tell if they have succeeded in doing so. Here’s my profile page on rendez.voo.

The site is right now in Alpha v1.0.
