I recently had the chance to discover a new startup coming out of India (see they do other things than outsourcing and curry) called Zimoz.com. It intrigued me so I sent an email asking a few more questions which I’ll post at the end of my review.
First rule of startups always support Firefox even if you don’t support IE yet because most of the tech crowd nowadays use FF. So it is a slight handicap to see that on the front page but I decided to jump in anyway for a look.
What is it for?
Zimoz is a way to create your own internet postcard where you can use pictures, video, text and send it via email to your friends. Your friends have the option to add to it as well and make your postcard more interesting. It sounded kind of confusing to me at first so I just had to create an account and take a look by myself.

Creating Postcards
After signup which was pretty painless, some people might mind the email verification, you see your account with a My postcards, Create postcards and Friends buttons. Your account homepage will show you the postcard of the day, the daily zimozian (I presume that’s what you would be called once you’re inducted) and the featured and latest postcards/members plus tags. Now it would be nice if you had the chance to ajaxically expand them if I want to see them rather than wait for loading.
So I created a postcard and the layout is nice. You can drag and drop to create your postcard anyway you like from adding pictures, text, changing colors and even a video function. It was very easy to use, the only annoyance was that if you made the text box to large then the functions would cut off on the left where they pop up, that was pretty much the case with most of the drag and drop functions as they all pop up on the left so if you go to far to the left your options are cut off.
This is the link to my postcard (it might not work in FF, give it a try anyway)
Interview with Rajesh Chokhani of zimoz.com.
How long did take you to come up with the name?
We took more than 2 months to decide on the name Zimoz.com. We were initially thinking magzimo.com as the site name. Since it sounded a lot like Maximo,we dropped the name. One of our team member has a pet , a frog. For some reason we started calling the frog as zimoz. We finally ended up with zimoz.com.
Is it funded by anybody?
No, it’s not funded by anyone. We are self funded.
What is cool about the Technology?
- Drag and Drop blogging tool on the web, using multiple media. (no download)
- No Templates. Your creativity is not curtailed anywhere.
- Zimoz.com allows co-creation of a blog by group of friends.
Our current focus is to listen to our community members, build up the community and gradually grow the community.
What are your past startups if any? And if yes have they been successful or a stepping stone?
For all of us, this is our first startup.
So you can create your own postcard, tag it, share it and anybody else can add to it as well. An intuitive new idea in the realm of the new social internet world.
Everybody Go To Zimoz.com.
