Gaming with the DELL XPS 710

This looks like one sweet machine to be gaming with. I’m a gamer myself although not hardcore like most of the people who would be willing to drop down a starting price of $5,499 for this system. But it would sure be nice to have one of these. So has Dell made an impression on me with this machine? Let’s take a look.

Design

The desktop combines look and innovative internal engineering to deliver a perfect balance of style and performance. The slightly forward slanting look of it and in all black with a red XPS logo gives it a nice high tech look that would look sweet in your gaming room, which you better have one if you want to truly enjoy a machine like this. The other cool detail is the bright LED lighting with seven programmable colors enough to have one for every day of the week.

Now with gaming systems the inner is as if not more important than the outer. As the amount of heat these things will generate the way the inner architecture from the cooling to the placement of the components inside is very important. Dell seems to have taken their time with designing it as it looks pretty good too me. Let’s just hope there isn’t an incident like their laptop battery burning case.

Tech Specs

Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Factory Overclocked to 3.2GHz or Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Factory Overclocked to 3.46GHz that’s raw power right there and the temperature is said to have been 8 degrees cooler than usual.

The operating system is Windows XP with a NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI Chipset for Intel. The memory is DDR2 and it enables the system to perform more and reduce power consumption. Here the amount of RAM determines the speed of your apps and how they perform. More RAM more power and smooth running of the system.

With games coming on DVD’s the space for them is ever increasing and XPS supports upto 4 hard drives for a total space of up to 2 TB!

Multiple DVD+/-RW, Combo, DVD-ROM configurations available.

Dual 768 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX graphics cards - SLI enabled

Couple all the above with 10 USB ports, 2 DVI and 1 S-Video ports along with enough expansion slots and I think you should be fine.

Also with the AGEIA PhysX Accelerator
bringing gaming characters and environments to life by adding tens of
thousands of “smart particles” to your gaming environment you can truly immerse yourself into the game.

So if you’re in the market to grab one of these you should take the time to go over all the details and of course you are able to configure it in true Dell fashion. Oh! did I tell you that the basic $5,499 system comes with a 20″ Wide Ultrasharp Flat Panel.

So would I buy one? Umm…yeah! Now I just need to convince the wife that the ‘family’ really needs this.

Dude, everybody go to get a dell :)
