A much needed feature in digg - Blocking Sites

Time and again while browsing through digg I’ve seen sites that I regularly browse and some sites well which quite frankly I’m tired of seeing on the front page of digg because they were submitted by one of the top users and got there only because of their top user ranking and not because of the content of the story.

So I propose to the digg team and all diggers out there to get them to implement this feature. View the picture on flickr.

A much needed feature in digg

What would it do?

Basically it would be a personal filter to block certain sites that you visit everyday and don’t really want to see the same content on the front page of digg again. It can then be easily accessible through the ‘Show Blocked Sites’ tab, so as to not completely drop exposure of these sites from your view.

How would it work?

Quite simply you click on the drop down tab that is next to every submitted story and if you’re sick of seeing this site every time you load the front page, trust me there are quite a few that I would do so immediately, you can just select the block site selection and the site would ajaxically go into your profile as being under the blocked sites list.

Can I still see the sites I blocked?

I think if this is feature is implemented it needs to made easy for anybody to see if the articles they read on a daily basis from news portals, content sites or blogs still needs to be only a click away from view. So a ‘Show Blocked Sites’ tab would be present alongside every ‘Popular Stories’ and ‘Upcoming Stories’ tab and anytime you want to see the sites you have blocked from your front page view can be seen there and you can digg them accordingly.

Blocking and Unblocking?

I’ve already explained blocking above thru the drop down tab. Unblocking would have to configured under the profile of a user so they can de-select sites that they have blocked very easily.

This would make the experience even more welcome on digg and definitely make visiting new sites more exciting.

What do you diggers think?
