This site caught my attention when I visited Alexa’s movers and shakers page. They were at number 1 for the week. So I decided to take a look.
At first the interface seems uncluttered enough and the main tabs you see are home, videos, channels, categories and invite. So apart from the usual account creation what else does LiveVideo offer you?
Well first of all you can create your account and create a favorites section, invite friends to join and add friends. You also have your own mail section, your own channel and of course you can upload your own videos.
What is really cool is their new feature which is called “Spread this video”. What it lets you do is that you hit all the social websites icons that are already pre-populated in the list and they get sent automatically to the site ready to be spread across the internet. So for example you want to spread it del.icio.us users you simply click on the delicious icon and boom you are taken instantly to a pre-populated post page where you enter whatever additional information you want and its saved.
This is a great way to spread your video with hardly any effort and get more people to view it, that is if you are looking for world wide fame?!
They also offer developers an API for those geeks who wish to integrate LiveVideo’s videos repository and user community into their applications. You need to create a developer profile though to gain access to the API.
What’s also nice is something which they call LiveVideo lite. It’s similar to embedding a video clip on your site except that you can add a few or many videos at a time to your favorites and they are all displayed and can be played from one interface. No need to reload more web pages to view multiple videos. Which is cool. (image below)

How will this site hold up to competition from other video sites and will it be able to take over any bandwidth from youtube?
I don’t know, see because when you think of user generated online video you think of youtube because they were the pioneers plus they have Google backing them so they can only get bigger. The rest will have to play catch up, but they will still be able to create a special area of the internet where they can all exist in harmony…I hope.

Lots of YouTube users are going over to LiveVideo because they are frustrated with all the problems with YouTube. It is a hot topic of discussion in Stickam chat.
