For those of you who have not heard of Motion Box yet it’s a really good alternative to sites like youtube, vimeo and others.
Even before you get to view the video you can see screenshots of it in the preview pages and scroll through them. Once you click through the preview thumbnail you see the player and are able to again view the whole video via thumbnails at the bottom and can select any part of the video simply by clicking and dragging and doing a bunch of options from sharing it, linking to that specific part of the video or just watching that much portion of it.
You are also able to tag certain parts of the video, though I think you need to sign up for that functionality to show itself (in my test as a non member I was not able to do so).
The site has been live since April and has been steadily gaining members. Though the content on the site is not exhaustive as youtube, but then again anybody else who tries to make a niche for themselves in online video upload sharing sites has to compete with the behemoth that youtube is. Frankly most of the times I see youtube’s video quality as quite grainy and small. The full screen version in youtube just makes it more scarier from a closer viewing range.
I like motion box and the fact that I can easily embed their videos onto a site or blog, like you see below. Also I like the fact the they don’t subject you to ads right at the top instead place them on the side and below the video so as not to look too distracting. The site for the time being is supported by VC capital and google ads.
Other features include searching by tags, adding to favorites, creating playlists, groups and of course uploading your own videos.
